I was driving past a station on my way to work that was changing it's numbers, but didn't see what the new ones were. I filled up last night at 2.60. The only reason I'm driving to work anymore is if it is going to rain. Other than that, the last few weeks I've been riding a bike.

Sadly I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Some of you guys have some interesting takes on the commodities market. :roll2:
ok, ill bite. so what your saying is that oil prices stayed reletively the same for years because demand was unchanged. then, "all the sudden" right after 9/11 oil demand magically skyrocketed to the point to where fuel prices literally more than doubled? your saying that fuel demands in the past year have more than doubled?

In short, you give the oil companies way too much credit. I've been talking to a wall about it, apparently, but maybe this article can shed some light on the situation that I've not been able to convey:
not really, i don't think we do. oil companies are like any other company. their sole puprose is to make money. when they see an oportunity (regardless of whether or not the situation actually impacts them financially) they WILL raise prices if they can get away with it. as things stand there is noone telling them no. therefor, they raise prices.

Meanwhile, our government has done plenty to limit domestic supplies the last 30+ years - the last American refinery was built in 1974 - while demand keeps going up and up. The reality of such behavior catches up with you, sooner or later.
if demand has steadily gone up and up over the years please explain to me why there weren't proportional increases in gas prices. explain to me why it took the wtc crashing to the ground and a war in a country that supplied the world practically 0 oil for there to suddenly be a supply and demand problem?

if you people want to force oil prices to drop heres how you do it. America as a whole needs to pick a single fuel providor and boycott them. just go to the others for your fuel needs. as that providor slowly withers and dies they will either drastically lower their prices in order to survive or they will go under. either way, we win. if the company does go under the others will be very aware that America has the power to bring them to their knees. this alone will make them think twice before raising fuel prices. its the conscept that you can protect yourself from 5 attackers with 2 rounds of ammo. you drop the first one and the other 4 will keep their distance.

Or the 4 remaining will rush you, and the 3 left standing will ream your ass with a broomstick, or in this case, a gas pump.

only if their only chance for survival is your death. you don't risk death in attacking someone who has proven they are willing to kill unless it is your only option for survival. really, what is the worst they can do to us? raise gas prices? oh deary me... they've never done that before . in this case, the oil companies need us more than we need them. without us they don't exist. without them, we get in really good shape.
