The GMAC Bowl is not supposed to be that week? Is that in a rulebook somewhere?
This is a big plus for Detroit and the organizers of this bowl - they've managed to separate their bowl game from all the other non-BCS games. That's gonna help them in a big way.
It's also a plus for the MAC and C-USA. Since these conferences are all but locked out of the BCS, it gives them a way to showcase their two teams. It also gives the two teams that play in this game extra practice time, which will help them out going into the next season.
This is a free country - the GMAC bowl is free to host their bowl game whenever they please.
The only negative I see to this is that it takes football season for these two teams in to the winter semester/quarter, and will likely force them to miss classroom time as the new term starts.
