Doesn't work that way with Athens PD. They relish getting Dawg players ringed up for even the most minor of issues. Have since the days of Coach Richt.

Per this report with Marc Schlabach, apparently this kind of crap was recognized over a year ago:

Apparently, you can lead a horse to water but can't make him drink. I'm betting this never happens again given the past two months.

Were there any arrests before people died? Or just lectures? Sounds like they knew it was a problem, and knew who was involved. I know my post sounds snarky, but I legitimately don't know if there were arrests before they had the cops in. If they were actually doing something about it, that's good and it's really unfortunate that people still died. If not, well, that's not good.

I genuinely don't know. I know that zero players missed time last year due to an arrest for Street Racing. Given Athens PD "enthusiastic" approach to detaining Dawg players - I would imagine that it would have been very public if it had been an issue prior to the season.

It sounds like the staff got wind of it and tried to nip it in the bud before it became a problem.

Off Topic: Street racing is such a very random crime. Athens (like Columbus) is a FANTASTIC drinking town. Trust me on this one.
The past three years crop of bulldogs never got busted in bars or in fights downtown.

Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter is declining visits with any teams selecting outside the top 10 in this month's NFL draft, agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Just sayin': The stupid thing about that is a "legit Super Bowl contender team" not having a top 10 pick might trade up to get Carter after an impressive/successful visit.
