Speaking as a alumnus, it's hard for me to describe the feeling. Take the Falcons out of the equation for a moment (since they're loss has nothing to do with ours and I'll circle back to them momentarily).

Taking an unofficial sample of my FB friends and family, people are understandably upset, but simultaneously hopeful.
The program is trending in the right direction and on all points, is well ahead of schedule. Nobody expected 13-2 with an AP #2 finish in year #2 of HC Kirby Smart. Nobody.

Couple this with minimal attrition on our coaching staff (our LB coach is leaving to be the DC at Tennessee) and strong recruiting classes in 2018 and 2019 and there is a lot to make us feel hopeful. Couple that with "once in a generation" type wins in South Bend and in Pasadena and SIGNIFICANT regression by our rivals (Tech, Auburn, Florida, UT) and we really don't have a lot to complain about. It has been a very, very good year.

Maybe it's more indicative of pro sports in general, but when the Falcons lost, it simply felt like there would be no more chances like this. The team had the 6th best scoring offense in the history of the NFL, the MVP, home field throughout the playoffs....etc

Nobody feels like "that was it, our run is over" in Athens today. It's just going to take awhile for the "damnit, this sucks" feeling to go away.
