George Herman "Babe" Ruth (The GOAT, MLB HOF. R.I.P.)

I always found it astonishing that Ruth's last 575 home runs were an extension of his own record for career HRs.

when compared to his peers, which is really the only way to judge different era's imo, Ruths numbers are frequently that absurd.

Here is just a quick one I found:

In 1919, when Ruth hit 29 home runs, there were only 447 homers hit in all of the Major Leagues. Ruth's 29 dingers were six percent of the MLB total. In 2012 there were 4934 home runs hit in the Majors; six percent of that total, 296, is more than any one team hit (the Yankees hit 245).
