11W ETIQUETTE: FOLLOWING RECRUITING WITHOUT BEING AN ASSHOLE

Chances are you aren't trying to be an asshole.

The vast majority of assholish behavior is fleeting or unintentional; a product of being ill-informed, uninformed or simply misunderstood. Fortunately all of those root causes can be effectively addressed through corrective action.

Addressed, meaning ultimately it's still up to you to be the change everyone wants you to be. Welcome to 11W Etiquette. We're all here to get better. Less assholey, if you will.

If you have great passion for Ohio State football recruiting but aren't an asshole, you can go ahead and skip to the third section entitled Don't Skip To The Third Section You Idiot We Just Said Assholes Don't Realize They're Assholes.

This lesson will be quick and to the point by design, because assholes generally don't have the attention span to read anything other than tweets or message board posts that they've written. If anyone responds to them (usually it's along the lines of wow you're an asshole) they'll respond. Usually they'll double-down on being an asshole.

We've put this self-study course together for two reasons:

1) As an 11W reader you're probably a Buckeye fan. We care about our tribe and want it to be great.

2) Nobody likes assholes. They're a pox on the world. Even assholes don't like other assholes.

Let's get started. Note: We're not going to tell you how to behave, act or think. We're simply defining assholish behavior where recruiting is concerned, and it's up to you to decide if you want to be like that or not like that. We're hoping it's the latter.

Contd....

Great read lol.

I was about to post the same article...must read, especially if you ever feel inclined to tweet at a recruit or player. This should be required reading for all Tennessee fans.

I could very easily see both Hubbard backs (him and Hill) commit this weekend.

How awesome would that be? And maybe the only time that two players at the same position from the same HS have committed to us the same day...I won't bother even researching that because it is an obscure fact and I doubt it has happened.

Ted Ginn and Donte Whitner I believe committed on the same day, and at that point, both were recruited to OSU as cornerbacks. Granted, neither played that position at OSU, and I don't recall whether Whitner actually played any corner at Glenville, but it's as close as I can get.

Korey Stringer and Leshun Daniels were both OL and I believe committed on the same day, but one was a guard, and the other a tackle.

I believe you're thinking of Dareus Hiley instead of Ginn. Ginn was in the class after Whitner/Hiley.

Whitner and Hiley were both '03 and indeed did commit on the same day...as I recall, both were for DB more generally but either way I stand corrected. Ginn was '04. Even though my obscure factoid is ruined, it is even crazier considering there is usually only 1 RB on the field at a time, whereas many other positions have 2-4 on the field at the same time.

Plus we typically only pull in 1 true rb a year. Whereas we pull in 3+ cbs and wrs.

That's not true.

2002: Clarret
2003: none
2004: Haw, Pittman
2005: M. Wells
2006: C. Wells
2007: Herron, Saine
2008: none
2009: Berry, J. Hall
2010: Hyde, R. Smith
2011: none
2012: Dunn, Ball
2013: Elliot, (D. Wilson)
2014: Samuel

2002 also had Dru Humphries, who unfortunately passed away before he ever got to OSU. In some circles he was the bigger prospect than MoC

I think we are done with QB's for the 2015 class. Gibson says he doesn't remember when he last talked to an OSU coach. I hope that means we push for a commitment from Haskins this weekend, and allow him to be the leader of the class. Haskins, Hausmann, and Hill hopefully get on board early. I think we'll take one more QB in 2016, and obviously have "The Prototype" in '17.
