Geek Squad; yea or nay?

cincibuck

You kids stay off my lawn!
I have a media cabinet with my TV, stereo, DVD, DVR and home computer networked together and all controlled by one remote. Due to extensive damage to the house I had to take the components apart and store them. Now I have the problem of getting everything back together and working on one remote again. I though about calling Geek Squad, but as soon as I googled them in I saw a storm of negative sites and comments.

!. Anyone had any experience with them; good, bad, indifferent?

2. If not Geek Squad how do I find someone competent and reasonably priced to do the work? (In Cincinnati)

Thanks in advance.

Are you capable of setting up the equipment independent of the remote? Or is that part of the complexity/problem too?

Geek Squad isn't the devil, they just charge a ton of money. There's a lot less chance for breaking stuff or misplacing things in your work order. You'd probably be better off paying a techie kid from church, son of co-worker, intern $50 to set it up, or even $75.

Get an estimate from Geek Squad by phone so you have a starting point.

I've got the Tivo DVR set up to the TV and the DVD player, but I'm using three remotes at this point in time. I do have all the manuals. If I had to I could go through them and get it back together. The remote is the tricky part (and the last step) as you have to work between the remote, the system and the internet.
