This is a FANTASTIC idea. Thanks Ryn. I'll be sending $ today.
Troops,
My thanks are not enough. My wishes for your health and safety fall far short. The daily prayers will never reach your ears. Just know ... always know ... that you are the very best of us. Our sons and daughters, our husbands and wives. The very core of our hopes ... our beliefs ... our life. Know that your service doesn't fall before unseeing eyes nor deaf ears. Know that your sacrifice isn't unknown. For that which we hold most dear, our freedom, is given by you. The price for such a gift is something we can not measure or quantify. Often the price seems too much to bear, yet you are there to pay our debt.
At Thanksgiving dinner a prayer was said on your behalf. The same will hold true at Christmas and all the meals between and those to follow. I look across the table and I can see that my children don't yet understand. Don't know that the gift they are receiving is far greater than anything they will unwrap on Christmas morning. They don't understand why grandpa's voice trembles when talking about the servicemen and women in harms way. They don't see dad wipe a tear from his cheek as he thinks about friends and family members far from home. But I know. Everyone else at the table knows. At tables across this country we know.
I am thankful that my children don't yet understand why your gift is greater than those they will unwrap at Christmas. That unfettered glee and honest joy is something I wish they could experience forever. I however know, that on a day in the not too distant future, I will do my best to explain why they will need to stand up and fight for what they believe in. Why folks have done this on their behalf in the past, the present and into the future. What it means and how valuable such a gift really is to them.
Words aren't enough to convey heartfelt thoughts, but for now, please accept my humble thanks and gratitude for your service and sacrifice. Come home safe.
