Game Thread Game Three: Ohio State 27, San Diego State 6 (final)

This is one of the best defenses in the nation. The offense will come around, Tressel is going to do whatever it takes to win. I'll take a 20 point victory every Saturday, thats fine with me, I dont care who its against.

We wont face anyone even close to as good as texas for the rest of the year. We've only played three games, and our starting quarterback has only played two games. They looked alright agaisnt Miami-oh, just because they didnt look great against Texas and SDSU doesnt mean that they wont improve.

You sound like me about 3 years ago. Hope you don't get as tired of waiting for the offense to come around as I did.

About 3 years ago we won the National Championship.

We've already got a loss and the NC wasn't due to the offense so I'm not quite sure what your point is.

What I do know is that this offense has sucked since the Wisconsin game in 2002 save for a few performances here and there. They finally pushed me over the edge today. No excuse whatsoever to still be having this type of piss poor performance with all this talent.

The real test will be if they actually believe the "We can't play that way against the rest of our schedule" that I'm sure they'll be saying tomorrow. I don't care if people think Greenway and the Iowa defense are overrated or not...they can stop a QB from running if they don't have to defend the vertical (8-15 yard) pass with more than 3 or 4 guys. My biggest fear is that Troy will think that some of those improv plays he made today will work against Iowa...they won't, unless Iowa thinks they have to defend something else besides Troy running and a 2 yard swing to Hamby on 3rd and 7.

Yeah, with an offense that was absolute shit for the second half of the season (except for the Minnesota game). I don't expect us to score 40+ points a game, but we should be scoring a lot more than 27 points against a defense like San Diego State's...we should've had that much before halftime.

Lost in a lot of this discussion is how dominant the defense was again. After the first play, the Aztecs were shut down completely.

Check out some of these stats, keeping in mind that SDSU had a 400ypg offense coming into this game:

Third down conversions - 1/12
Rushing yards - 13 for 0.7 yards per rush on 19 attempts
Total punts - 11
Punt returns - 2/4 yards
Total yards - 179
Total yards after the first play of the game - 99

Lynell Hamilton had 10 yards on 7 carries, and was the leading rusher for SDSU.

Almost half of SDSU's 166 passing yards came on one play.

And they had just two first downs after the TD. That's two first downs in 59:49 of football.

That's going to be a real tired defense come November.

Tressel's 3 and out spread is completely unfair to the defense. Going on 3 years now that this offense has completely sucked.

Tressel Ball: Not of this world Defense, great special teams, and piss poor, horrible offense.

This will cost Ohio State offensive recruits. Why in the world would a blue chip offensive talent want to come to Ohio State? They won't even give Ted Ginn the ball more than 3 or 4 times a game.:2004:

They crossed the 50 twice. Once on the 80 yarder, and once for exactly 1 play sometime in the 3Q. Ended up getting a false start and going back to their own 49.

Take away the 80 yarder (which, there appeared to me to be holding on Jenkins (It may have been Ashton, now that I think about it) to me during live action (havent' seen any replays)) and OSU gives up 99 yards. 99. Incredible.

Take a look at TOP. Defense didn't get tired in this one.

Except it didn't go 3 and out.

Am I missing the joke? I hope?

The defense isn't tired now, but if they have to continue to win games because of a lack of offense then they are going to be tired later in the season. Think back to the Michigan game of 03. The offense that showed up yesterday was not that of a top 25 team let alone a top 10 team.

And it's no joke. The offense is miserable. It was miserable in the Texas game and it was worse than miserable yesterday. I wish it was a joke. The only joke going on right now is Coach Tressel's offense and it's complete waste of top notch talent and lack of imagination.

Screen passes? Passes downfield? They ran about 8 different plays yesterday and scored 5 more points on SDSU than they scored on Texas. You don't see something wrong there?
