Game thread: USC 66, UCLA 19 (Final)

I hate all the Trojan fellating the media loves to do, but Reggie Bush is the real deal. It's been A LONG time since I've seen a runner as electrifying as him. VY has had an amazing year, but Bush is the best player in CFB this year. Now he scores as I type this. We have ourselves another blowout. Fuck.

Aflac Trivia - only 2 guys to be named all Pac-10 QB 3 times?

I'll guess Elway and Leinart (if they've named teams this year).

I'm hoping it's not Fouts, who had a pretty good career at Oregon. Another possibility is Jack Thompson from Washington State, or Drew Bledsoe.

What about Jim Plunkett?

EDIT: Leinart, and Gary Beban (UCLA)

What about Jim Plunkett?

Answer was Gary Beban and Leinart. I thought about Beban, since he won the Heisman in '67 over OJ, but I didn't think he had 3 big years.

Good call on Plunkett. I don't know why he didn't get it 3 times. Here's info from his bio:

"Surgery for a benign tumor in his neck in August 1966 slowed him physically and academically during his first year at Stanford. He didn't play well for the freshman team, and when his performance didn't improve the next spring, coach John Ralston suggested a switch to defensive end.

Plunkett, 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, rejected the idea, and Ralston redshirted him in 1967. The year of practice and no play helped Plunkett. In 1968, he threw for 14 touchdowns and set a Pac-8 record with 2,156 yards passing.

His junior year was even better when he set league records for touchdown passes (20), passing yards (2,673) and total offense (2,786), ranking third nationally in total offense and fifth in passing. "The best college football player I've ever seen," said Washington State coach Jim Sweeney.

Resisting the temptation to turn pro in 1970, Plunkett stayed for his senior season. It was a memorable year as he surpassed many of his league records, passing for 2,715 yards and 18 touchdowns as Stanford went 8-3 and won the Pac-8."

This just exposes UCLA for what it is. Their defense is among the worst in college football and the offense isn't firing today, so, this gets uglier by the second. Going to bed!

Now if I stated the scoreline as USC 24 - UCLA 3 - with better than half the game to go, I don't think the natural conclusion would be that Leinart was having a bad day - yet he is.

Just now fumbling the ball on the snap, completion rate well below his season average. I think he can kiss any hope of netting the majority of the Hesiman votes goodbye with this performance.

UCLA tacks on another 3 on a FG to narrow the gap to 24-6. At least they are not on early deathwatch like the Buffs were.

Leinart has been throwing high all damned day!

I'm glad though, b/c I want Archie to still be the only 2 time Heisman winner.:oh: :io:

Dan - "Sometime soon he'll have to strike the pose, don't you think?"

Keith - "No, he's got too much class and dignity for that."

I think all those somersaults into the end zone contradict Keith.
