Game thread: NW'ern 28, Iowa 27 (Final)

Weren't the Hawkeyes supposed to win the Big Ten, and maybe a national championship this season? I believe that the Big Ten media darlings need to win out just to be bowl eligible this season (one of their five current wins was against Division I-AA Northern Iowa).

I believe the bowl rules allow a team to count a victory against a I-AA opponent toward bowl eligibility once in a 4-year period.

Was this years preseason rankings amongst the worst ever, or is it me? Just off the top of my head, Tennecheat, Iowa, scUM, Purdue were all high ranked and are at best struggling to stay ranked.

Yes. Resembles the year Nebby fell off the map...

Only teams that were rated higher than they finished, pay special attention to preseason 5, 6, 7, 8 all of which finnished unranked, save for Col.

oklahoma deserves its own recognition as one of the worst preseason picks ever. how could the pollsters think so highly of a team that had to bring in quarterbacks with absolutely no experience, minus a couple garbage time snaps?

I'm not surprised Iowa has lost a few games, but I am surprised at the lack of testicular fortitude they shoed today. They're just not a team with much character, in addition to being horribly overhyped, and Wisconsin will probably destroy them next week.

Has anyone else noticed that Iowa has gotten basically zero pub since Trev Alberts left ESPN? I think he was the one leading and running the Iowa hype machine.

CBS.sportsline.com had Iowa #2 in their praseason poll. They must have thought that the Hawkeyes switched to the SEC to show them that much love.

My big question now is does Kirk Ferentz = Bill Snyder?

In other words, bring a program up, get to a couple of big Bowl Games and make some noise, then sink back to mediocrity. We'll see.
