Game Thread Game Seven: #1 Ohio State 38, Michigan State 7 (10/14/06)

Ok - so I'm reading a lot about Michigan State's offense vs. Ohio State's defense. What about Ohio State's offense vs. Michigan State's defense? Anything for Ohio State to worry about, or should we expect the Buckeyes to continue to roll, offensively?

Can I ask whay some of you kind folks were concerned about Trannon? I know he's out for this week's game, but what exactly is it about his game that had any of you really concerned?

I've been watching the kid for 4 seasons (RS in 2002), and haven't been impressed.

He has not come up big in any big game (UM, ND, OSU, Penn St) in five years on campus (RS 2002).

I have never even seen a pass thrown to him designed to take advantage of his height (6'6").

He probably has more dropped balls than any other two receivers on the team combined.

Buckeye fans should be disappointed that Trannon won't be playing. The unknown entity behind him in the depth chart has a better chance of actually making plays in this week's game.

They've got a couple semi-solid Dlinemen, the same shaky linebackers (prepare for more 'david herron used to block for maurice clarett' references) and the corners are OK.

The safeties are both headhunters, though. not always in position, but they're out for blood. kinda fun to watch, when it's not OSU in the crosshairs.

You talking about Wiley and Warrick? Have either of them made a hit this year?

They come up and stop the run after the D Line and LBs whiff, but I haven't seen these guys near a receiver all year. They play like there is a "15 yard halo rule" for wide receivers.

Sometimes they are so alone in our secondary, I expect opposing WRs to actually signal for a fair catch when a pass comes their way.

Wiley and Warrick are good football players, but this quirky defense that JLS runs has no place in the Big Ten. Everyone aside from the D Linemen seem out of place and under-utilized.

Stud. Rush. Bandit. Geez! What the hell are these positions? How do you recruit a kid to play "Rush" or a "Bandit"? Do you look for kids too big to be a safety, but too small to be a LB? Undersized D Linemen?

Give me a stunt 3-4 and and tight cover with safety help ALL DAY!

And while I'm at it, it might be nice if JLS could leave a skill kid at one position for a couple seasons. It seems he's converted every decent RB prospect to Cornerback since he's been here. He had a kid converted from RB to WR playing RB against Michigan. I'm amazed any RB would even consider MSU, knowing that he could likely become a CB next year, a WR the next year, or maybe even a "Bandit" at some point.

Whateverthehellthatis.

Anyone got John Cooper's phone number?

Things have indeed become desperate in Spartyville!!

Yep. Here's another little snippet for you:

JLS came to MSU in 2003. Of his recruits in the 2004 class (15th ranked recruiting class in the country), 15 of them are no longer on the team:

Richard Abney WR 5-11 187 4.4 5.5 Forestville, MD
Eric Andino DE 6-4 212 4.75 5.7 Arlington Heights, IL
Bryan Brighton ATH 5-10 183 4.4 5.4 Allen Park, MI
Hugh D'Imperio LB 6-4 229 4.6 5.8 Sewell, NJ
Luis Fonseca OL 6-4 278 5 5.3 Wixom, MI
Kellen Freeman-Davis TE 6-6 229 4.6 5.7 Adrian, MI
Eric Hines DB 5-9 182 4.45 5.5 Detroit, MI
Tony Howard DB 5-10 193 4.41 5.5 Garfield Heights, OH
Kenny Jackson WR 6-2 197 4.5 - Bakersfield, CA
Dan McGarry TE 6-6 236 4.8 5.4 Poland, OH
Craig McGovern TE 6-3 231 4.54 5.7 Princeton, NJ
Tyrone McKenzie LB 6-1 225 4.55 5.1 Riverview, FL
Leon Pennington Jr. RB 6-0 224 4.53 5.5 Hallandale, FL
Ron Stoops DB 6-3 195 4.5 5.5 Youngstown , OH

Can any other university claim half of this crap?

What were the issues/circumstances for thier dismissall?

In fairness, it runs the whole spectrum. It's not all on JLS. Injuries, grades, criminal problems, transfers. Mysteriously, some just never even enrolled.

WARNING: ALLEGED STORY FOLLOWS. I REPEAT, ALLEGED. I HAVE NO FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE, AND IF THE MODS CHOOSE TO, THEY CAN DELETE THIS STORY.

Two of these guys from that class (Andino and Freeman-Davis) were allegedly involved in a 4 on 1 fight last Thursday night. This fight allegedly resulted in another kid's head being held under water in a creek behind an apartment complex near campus. Witnesses allege he was let up for air, punch in the face a few times, and submerged again, repeatedly.

That's some sick twisted stuff if true. They should NEVER be back on that team if this stuff is even remotely true. Criminal and civil charges are allegedly pending.

Football wise, it sucked because these guys are both TE's. All week leading up the UM game they practiced a two tight end smashmout offense with 260 lb Jehuu Caulcrick at RB. The plan all week was to cram the ball down UMs throat (me likey dis plan!).

Friday (day before the game) guess who gets suspended indefinitely? BOTH of the starting TEs. Offensive gameplan changed drastically Friday night for a Saturday game.

The Spartans have obviously watched seen the fans of other schools come on the board with confidence before their game & then have to deal with having their dreams crushed.

The Spartans are clearly using a different tactic and trying to lull us into a false sense of security!

It won't work Sparty...I'm on to you!
