Northern Illinois names quarterback

DEKALB, Ill. (AP) — Phil Horvath was named Northern Illinois’ starting quarterback yesterday for the Sept. 2 opener at Ohio State.
He beat out Dan Nicholson.
"I could go with either Phil or Dan, but one of them has to start. I do not have a lot of reasons, but it will be Phil," coach Joe Novak said.
"I think Dan is going play a bunch this season. I feel comfortable and confident with both of them." Horvath led the NCAA in completion percentage (.706) last season and was sixth in passing efficiency (159.45). He started the first nine games before suffering a broken arm against Central Michigan. Nicholson started the final three games.

1) Horvath must not be that good if he he's been around for awhile and he just barely keeps his job from being snatched away by a relative newcomer every year.

Or maybe it is because Nicholson won our 3 biggest games in the MAC, beat Toledo for the 1st time since 1990, and took is to our 1st MAC Championship Game.


They both are good quaterbacks, and I would have been happy with either.

If I'm NIU's coach, I keep Garret wolfe in for max protect about 80% of the time, because without it, Horvath will get snapped like a twig.

Hey. Jabronie. Read my previous posts. I'm not a Huskie fan. I just saw that show today on ABC and was surprised to see him on the team. We're going to squash him, not really worried.
