Game Thread Game One: #1 Ohio State 35, Northern Illinois 12 (9/2/06)

We're better then Miami of Ohio and you are breaking in a new defense?

The guy basically said it would be around 40-0 with 10 minutes left in the 3rd.

That's not going to happen.
it must get tiring defending absolutely every negative post made about NIU... as I doubt this is the only place you do this.

What? Who is trolling? Who said we beat Michigan last year?
try to follow along class. you trolled in with your 'ohio state didn't beat miami(oh) by that much'. In an attempt to show you how retarded using last years results against differing opponents is, I pointed out your loss to michigan.

your posts are getting more and more bold by the day, so I'm sure your true feelings toward ohio state will be shown for the world closer to Saturday. Once you get killed, you'll come back with a nice 'the better team won, but...' post, and we'll move on until next year's MAC team comes calling with somebody we should respect.

I presume you are asking if I think think this is a good premise for your counter argument. Well, it isn't. We are better than we were last year on offense. We were so far ahead of Miami that is was only when the 3rd string took field that Miami got their points (which is a hint by the way).

HINT -- The likeliest scenario for NIU to prop up their end of the scoreline is when tOSU pulls the starters mid-way through the 3rd quarter. Tressel doesn't give a rat's rear end about the line, only about winning.

That _basically_ didn't happen. You are reacting to a statement that you intuited, not one that was stated.

Oh you really think you have me figured out don't you?

Personally all I did with the last post is do what I have done the 1st 100 pages of this thread.

My prediction:

tOSU - 48
NI - 17

Most of OSU's scoring in the first half plus a quick strike after halftime. We coast and give up a late TD
So most of the points come before halftime with a quick strike after halftime?

You coast and give up a late TD.

Ok my bad, so with 10 minutes left in 3rd you will be up around 41-10?

Is that better?

We know... we've been reading you running to the rescue of NIU's honor/pride over, and over, and over, and over. Is it impossible for you to let any of those posts go, and realize this is a buckeye board? Are you hoping to make all of us think they way you do? I haven't seen you be swayed by any argument (from homeristic ramblings to very thoughtful, logical ones)... do you expect us to be any different?

I actually am now convinced that not only does NIU scare us, they outright beat us. I mean, that's why they're coming here...right Horvath? This win and Wolfe's 300 yard game against us will springboard his Heisman campaign to victory.

Nendick is hoping to keep getting his kicks

By Rick Armstrong STAFF WRITER

DEKALB — It was probably no surprise to Joe Novak that Chris Nendick would come through in the clutch for him again.
As a freshman, the kicker out of Naperville Central High School had calmly drilled a 39-yard field goal with time running out in Orlando, Fla., to lift Novak's Huskies to a 30-28 win over upset-minded Central Florida.
This past winter, the Northern Illinois University football coach knew he needed a new long-snapper for its special teams. Who better to come up with one than one of the guys most affected by that center?
Enter Nendick, a junior and one of the steadiest and most consistent kickers in school history in his two seasons on the job.
"My kicking coach out of California is Chris Sailer and he runs a national combine every year for high school and junior college players in Las Vegas," said Nendick. "I was fortunate enough to be one of the 10 coaches that he chose to help him out with the combine (in January)."
Nendick had hooked up with Sailer after attending one of his camps and doing well at one of his summer competitions. Looks like working at the combine will be a win-win for Nendick and the Huskies.
"I was catching snaps and this (high school) kid turned my hands blue after catching about 10 to 15 snaps," said Nendick, who made sure he got the kid's name — Tommy O'Brien — and passed it along to Novak and his staff.
The 6-foot-2, 235-pound O'Brien was a two-way starter on offense and defense as well as the long snapper for his high school team in Tehachapi, Calif.
"He hadn't had any scholarship offers," said Nendick, noting that O'Brien's older brother performs similar duties at the University of New Mexico. "He had walk-on offers at Oklahoma State and Arizona, I believe. We took him on an official visit, offered him one and he committed on the spot."
On Saturday, he will make his collegiate debut in front of 102,000-plus fans at Ohio Stadium.
"What you want in a long snapper is speed on the ball and what it looks like coming off," said Nendick. "If it's a spiral, obviously you've got some talent. The speed is also important. (O'Brien's) snap to the punter taks .65 to .67 of a second. That's incredibly fast. Point seventy five is considered real good."
Nendick, who carries a streak of 94 straight point-after-touchdown kicks into the game, will be a beneficiary, along with sophomore punter Andy Dittbenner. Nendick has also made 74 percent (25-34) of his field goal attempts and is perfect from 20-29 yards (11-11). He's hit 9-14 from 30-39 and 4-8 from 40-49. His 52-yarder in last year's MAC Championship game is also the school record.
Street & Smith magazine lists hims as the "best under pressure" among MAC kickers.
Novak won't argue.
"Chris has been extremely accurate," the coach said. "He's made some long kicks, pressure kicks and big kicks for us. Yeah, right now, I'd put him in Steve Azar's class. I sure would."
Azar, the kicker Nendick succeeded, holds most of the school's career records.
Nendick hopes to continue that successful run and keep improving on his kickoffs.
"Last year my kickoffs were a major disappointment," he said. "I had four or five that went out of bounds. I'm looking to kick the ball the way I'm capable every single time I'm out there."
During summer workouts he says he's "60-70 pounds stronger with my legs, as far as squatting is concerned."
His workouts include a lot of running, work on the stairmaster and plenty of stretching.
"It's probably the best thing I can do for my legs because it helps build up your hamstrings and your quadriceps muscles at the same time," he said.
The first two years, he says, have been a blur.
"It's blown past," he said. "But I'll never look back. I'm looking forward to playing Ohio State. I can't think of anything better than facing the No. 1 team in the country."

Procrastinators, pay attention. Today is most likely the last day to purchase tickets for the NIU football game against Ohio State.
"We probably sold about 100 tickets [Monday], and we have about 50 left," said director of ticket operations Eric Schultz. "They'll most likely be gone by [Tuesday]."
Students can purchase up to two tickets with their student I.D. at the Convocation Center for $59 per ticket.
The game against the Buckeyes will take place at Ohio Field in Columbus, Ohio and will start at 2 p.m. central time.
