So the advantage is that coaches can stay in constant contact with the young men? Or send them workout/conditioning instructions?
Or continue to have them on campus as much as possible?

I think mostly it gives the school more certainty and allows them to devote more attention to uncommitted recruits (or committed ones that didn't sign). Plus the coaches don't run the risk of committing an infraction by referring to them. To some extent, I also think it provides a recruiting advantage for the coaches to tout that recruit is indeed coming to your school.
