Apparently Goldstein isn't even eligible to play this year. Publications from the university have indicated he has to sit out this season since he transferred from a community college. I didn't think he would have to sit out a year for that, but whatever. The NCAA makes walk-ons who have no expectation of playing meaningful minutes anyway sit out, while allowing more high profile players to abuse the transfer rule and play immediately if any of their relatives have any health problems, or if their coach leaves or something.

[/URL] Has something to do w/ him starting at 4-yr school (Montclair St), transferring to 2-yr (Brookdale CC) and then to a 4-yr (OSU). #buckbk

Yeah, that doesn' t seem to make any sense.

Let's say that rule wasn't in place. A recruit signs at a school, wants to transfer after his 1st year. Wants to avoid sitting out a year, so he transfers to a CC. If he transfers again from CC to D1, no sitting rule. This would allow a bypass of the year sitting out he would have encountered had he gone from 1 D1 school to another.

In short, this rule prevents D1 transfers from going to a CC for a very short period of time just to transfer again to another D1 school.

But obviously Goldy didn't circumvent the whole "sit out a year" idea, since he played a whole year of CC ball. That's why the ruling makes no sense as it applies to him. Make a walk-on with minimal prospects of playing sit out a year over a technicality while letting Cam Newton and Anthony Davis take $200K and play - clearly the NCAA has their priorities in order.
