Future Football Schedules (Updated 8/31/2024)

Oh quick, lemme buy a calendar so I can mark it in permanent ink.

The Buckeyes 2027 schedule is now complete. They’ll have a game with Alabama circled on the calendar, but they know they’ll also be facing Boston College and Bowling Green.

Mark this 2027 game too: The Crimson Tide will make their first ever appearance in the Horseshoe on Sept. 18, 2027.

That's $600,000 more than Ohio State was slated to pay Bowling Green for the game that was scheduled to take place between the Buckeyes and Falcons last season, but was ultimately canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The new payout is in line with what the Buckeyes will pay other Group of 5 schools for non-conference games in upcoming seasons.

Just sayin': The cost of a home game opponent is getting to be really expensive.

According to report by Tony Paul of the Detroit News, Ohio State will pay Western Michigan $1.8 million for the game. The Broncos were originally scheduled to play Cincinnati in 2024, but will now play the Buckeyes instead after paying Cincinnati a $500,000 buyout.

$1.8M seems a little much for a MAC school, looks like we are subsidizing their $.5M buyout to the Juggalos. Why send $1.8M to that state up North? They should have scheduled another Ohio MAC team. The other 2 nonconference games in 2024 are Southern Miss and (at) Washington.

When it comes to scheduling MAC schools, they should mostly schedule MAC schools from Ohio. Could’ve scheduled Ohio and brought in Frank Solich to sit in the president’s box just to stick it in Nebraska’s eye for fun. I don’t really care but it seems like this would’ve been a good time to throw the Bobcats a bone.

Ohio State is scheduled to host Buffalo in its 2028 season opener on Sept. 2, 2028, making up for the game that was scheduled to be played between the Buckeyes and Bulls in 2020 before the Big Ten canceled all of its non-conference football games for that season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

All three non-conference opponents Ohio State was supposed to play in 2020 are now back on the schedule for future seasons. Ohio State will open its 2027 season against Bowling Green, who it was originally scheduled to play in its 2020 season opener, before hosting Alabama in its second game of the 2027 season. Ohio State will play a new home-and-home series with Oregon next decade, traveling to Eugene in 2032 – as it was supposed to in 2020 – before hosting the Ducks at Ohio Stadium, as it did this season, in 2033.

Seems like we're freezing out the In-state schools. Toledo next year and BG five years down the road is it. We have more games scheduled against non-ohio mac schools than in-state. Wonder what the behind the scenes dynamic is there.

If I were an Ohio MAC school AD, I would not schedule Ohio State. I can get the same money from an out of state power, and expand my recruiting footprint at the same time.

With OSU taking fewer Ohio kids than ever, I think they're better served by a game at Ohio State. Plus, games at The Shoe are huge among their alums, and they make them buy season tickets to get an Ohio State ticket. Now , don't get me wrong, I have no fucks to give for these schools and am shedding no tears (particularly for the two that royally fucked Ohio State in the 60s), nut it seems odd after giving one (sometimes two) a game every year.

We need to start getting say, 6 of the Top 10 Ohio kids every year when possible. I feel like Ohio kids will be less likely to run straight for the portal vs a kid from Cali or Florida that isn't getting playing time. Keep the special powers kids at home as much as possible.
