Gene Smith:

"We are trying to finalize an agreement on a game for 2011. We hope to have an announcement on that within the next month. As everyone knows, both schools are working on their conference schedules for 2011. I will say that the figure is not 2 million. Details will be released later."

Colorado possibly coming to Columbus in 2011

CU trying to secure football game with Ohio State next fall

Right now Dan Hawkins needs to focus on finishing strong in the Big 12 in order to be given the opportunity to coach Colorado in the Pac-12.

However, Buffs fans might soon be able to look ahead to an exciting matchup with a noteworthy Big Ten foe.

Sources have told the Camera that CU officials are on the verge of adding Ohio State to the 2011 schedule. If the proposed deal is finalized, the Buckeyes would host the Buffs in Columbus next fall.

CU would receive a payout in the neighborhood of $2 million for traveling to the Horseshoe. Ohio State would not make a return trip to Boulder."

.../cont/...

Speculation is that it's to help ease a 2011 Pac transition...Cal is currently on their schedule as an OOC opponent & would need replacing.

Edit: Looking at the calenders both teams only have 11 games scheduled for 2011 so it doesn't look like the Cal game is an issue either way.

Ohio State vs Colorado Sept 24, 2011

Ohio State-Colorado Game Set
Gridiron matchup for 2011 season

COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio State and Colorado will meet on the football field Sept. 24, 2011, at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, the two schools announced today.

This will be a great contest between two outstanding BCS teams that share an excellent football tradition, said Ohio State director of athletics Gene Smith. I know our fans will enjoy this opportunity.

The matchup with the Buffaloes gives Buckeye fans just another reason to anticipate the 2011 season, Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said. Our players certainly enjoy games where they can test themselves against the other conferences nationally.

Ohio State will pay the Buffaloes $1.4 million for the one-time matchup.

Colorado has always recognized the significance of playing marquee opponents in the non-conference portion of our football schedule, Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn said. This is a tremendous opportunity on the national platform to schedule a game with Ohio State, which has been one of the nation's premier programs and whom we have a lot of respect for. Were looking forward to what will be CUs first trip to the Horseshoe? in 25 years.

Ohio State's 2011 non-conference schedule will be: Sept. 3 vs. Akron; Sept. 10 vs. Toledo; Sept. 17 at Miami (Fla.); Sept. 24 vs. Colorado.

The two schools last met in football in 1986. Ohio State leads the all-time series by a 3-1 margin.

Looking forward to showing the Buff family I married into the 'Shoe and surrounding environs. Nice win-win game too: The Buckeyes get a BCS opponent that's credible but probably not too threatening and CU gets $, an opportunity for a huge upset, and more exposure to Ohio recruits (Ohioans Greg Rippy and James Stewart start for them right now and they're clearly trying to pull more Ohio kids), but I won't sweat that until they pull one we want, which is unlikely to happen.

And yes Mili, CU has a sweet campus.
