Full class and maybe overflow?

crazybuckfan40

Head Coach
The way it looks right now this class could fill up really fast and then we will have to pull some offers. It kind of seems we are over offering.

Prospects left that we have a good shot at and may offer.

Rb: Wells, Ringer, Gwaltney, Davis
WR: Lymon, Sledge
DL: Wilson, Ashley, Mckinney
Lb: Lennix, McCoy, Hodge, Felder, Robinson, Daniels, Laurinitis
DB: Thomas, Smalls, Russell, Rowell, Washington, Phillips

The coaches are going to have a lot of explaining to do as to why they offered and now have to pull the offer.

All the lbs right now have pretty high interest in us besides, Robinson and Laurinitis as they are committed elsewhere but want to look at tOSU.

Lennix, McCoy, Hodge, have all been called buckeye leans. We have a real good shot at Felder with the firing of TW, making us one of the top two, and Robinson seemed to be having a good time on his visit. Also Daniels has been to almost all of our games.

At db I think we are Smalls, Russell, Washington(if offered) favorites. They can't take them all. Also we have a good shot at Thomas.

At dl we already have 3 so if we take on more that puts us in a good boat, but JamO is really trying to convince Mckinney and the recruits were talking to Ashley today and we are Wilson's favorite.

At WR sledge really likes us, and with this great class filling up and Lymon never being to tOSU really bodes well for us in his recruitment.

As for RB: Wells is ours and Gwaltney will decide at the AA. He could be ours. If not Ringer is ours.

I count there are 8 players that favor us, and then that is not even counting the players that the coaches will wait on, like lymon, Felder, Thomas, Ashley, Mckinney.

This is enough to make you head spin, trying to think about all this. Hope the coaches have a plan, because I don't think you can always take first come first serve b/c there are always some players the coaches want more. What would of happened last year if the class was full and they told Teddy first come first serve sorry we don't have a spot for you.

pretty nice list

to start take davis off at rb
same for sledge i think he talking shit
ashley and mckinney imo pipe dreams
felder, robinson, laurinitas same as above
thomas and phillips aren't leaving the south

I don't know that we will wait for some of these guys ecspecially if they aren't giving us alot of love come early jan.

First off.. ALL prospects understand that we can only take so many people. So the moment we have accepted commitments from that #, they understand that we can no long honor their offer. Same with any other school.. so if you think that we are the only ones doing this you are wrong.

You should go back in time and count how many scholarships we offered out... maybe count how many LSU has given out...

I just think you are over-emphasizing something that doesn't need to be...

I understand that but it really looks bad on in recruiting when there is an offer on the table to these kids and then it is taken away. Like Taz. When you give the kid an offer he should be able to choose that he wants to go there. Also the coaches have got to know how much some of these kids want to be buckeyes and that know that with an offer they will be like Ringer, Lennix, and players like that. So when they offere them it means they could miss out on other players they have already had offers too.

Also the whole thing about you hae had the offer you could have made a decision argument doesn't always work in the case of Taz he was waiting to go on his official visit and then he finds out, that there is no offer. Let the poor kid know a head of time, also what if Rowell pulls the trigger tomm. and so does Wilson. Maybe the coaches want someone else more and they tell them to wait and then they get pissed off they miss out on the other players and you get screwed both ways.

These aren't scheming recruiters. They'd like to be able to stand by all of their offers, and say that once they offer that the kid will be taken. But that's not how recruiting works. You have to offer a ton of kids according to how good of a chance you have with each of them.

I feel awful for Taz and wish the system could be changed, but there aren't enough scholarships in modern college football for major programs like ours that have to go after so many marquee players.

Think about the situation with us picking up the ND kid. That one was a big surprise, and if we had another couple of players hoping to fill two remaining spots, him suddenly reversing his choice throws everything off. Its basically a flawed system where you have to gamble and unfortunately that sometimes leaves players like Taz in the dust.

Yeah I understand it.

I guess the one thing that I really don't understand and the reason I really started this thread is the offering of so many safeties lately. I know they want safeties, but I would think they would have got a good feel on the russell kid and could of held of on Rowell just a little longer, b/c if they liked rowell more they would have offered him first.

Agreed. I think they might be going overboard on that one.

I also realized you weren't anti-OSU recruiting. I was actually addressing the issue in general moreso than your post, tho it was a reply after your post.

Mostly the system is flawed, but they do seem to be going after quite a lot of safeties. Fortunately they are smarter than us :)

I forget, but did we undersign last year? If so, we can use some of those schollies this year, as we appear to be having multiple guys enrolling early, which would allow us to go over the projected 21 or 22 or whatever the number is.

Cordle, Boone are two possible freed up ships, and I'm sure more and more will be trying to do it since the benefits are becoming so obvious.

The big thing to remember is that while we offer scholarships early in the year, when a recruit waits and waits and waits, the coaches need to offer a kid they feel more sure will end up a Buckeye... you can't just wait on these kids because they want to be pampered by 5 schools.

I agree with this. You want to honor your offer, but in the end you have to look out for the program. You dont want to put all of your eggs in one 17 yr olds basket, and have him go elsewhere on signing day, and be left holding the bag. It nice that kids want to take their time - but its all about risk. As NLOI day appraoches, schools need to hedge their risk by looking at other kids. But the risk doesnt disappear, it is transferred to the kids - if they wait too long, they may not have an offer because the class is full. I dont blame kids who want to wait till the last minute because of fanfare and spotlight, but I dont feel bad for these same kids either who get their offers pulled because they waited too long. Schools need to hedge their bets. The kids should realize they need to also.
