FU** ORD and United Airlines

craigblitz

Juice, Full of Juice!!
So I have been trying to fly back to the Burgh since 3pm yesterday and because of crazy horrible weather (you know rain) I am stuck at ORD flying stand-by all morning long. <O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p

I fully understand that weather and delays happen etc etc but ORD has to be the worst airport in the world to fly into or out of hands down. To make matter worse United has to be one of the worst ran airlines in the world. No wonder they are bankrupt. For an airport the size of ORD you would think that there would be more then 2 people working the customer service line and don't even get me started on the 1 person working the ticketing counter. Yes I said 1 and that was for first class passengers. <O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p

So long story short I have over 100,000 miles with united and fly them at least 30 times a year and the best they could do for me was to fly me stand-by and guarantee me a flight to Pitts by 9pm tonight. They tried getting me on other flights as well but alas they have been cancelled :-).<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p

So this is my feeble attempt to tell everyone I can NEVER EVER EVER fly United and avoid ORD if possible, Midway is a great alternative, just do not check in luggage there.<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p

So F-You ORD and United I hope you choke while you swallow my children!!!!

Man I feel better

Dude, relax. We’re just having some really crappy weather here in Chicago. The same delays and cancellation would have happened at any busy airport. I flew in last night to O’Hare on United and was delayed a few hours; you just got to accept that’s going to happen sometimes. Why don’t you just rent a car and drive home? (I assume the Burgh is Pittsburgh which is only about 8 hours, you’ll be home way before 9 PM)

Brewtus - I agree it was a vent and this is not a one time occurance either. I fly into ORD pretty much on a weekly basis and since I have started a new project out here (3 months ago) there has only been 2 flights that have been on time. BTW not a shot at the city in anyway. Chicago is an awsome city.

I think I found a solution. Southwest flys into Midway direct so I think I am taking that option. :-)

I agree that delays at O’Hare are way too frequent but I’m fortunate that I can adjust my travel schedule to off-peak days and times most of the time which helps me in reducing delays (I avoid flying on Mondays and Fridays). The problem is that the airport is at capacity during peak travel times and any little weather problem has a cascading effect on delays. But personally I prefer O’Hare over Midway since there are so many more direct flight options.

Good luck getting home, looks like the bad weather is going to continue all day.

If you travel as much as cb does you prefer an airline that has a first class section, assigned seats and rewards their frequent travelers.

That cuts Southwest out immediately.

I used to fly United through ORD out of Cleveland back in my days in Ohio. It sucked 20 years ago and I can't imagine it getting any better now.

The sad fact is I see this more and more with all airlines. I fly Continental and occassionally Northwest. Continental has the first class section down to one and one half rows on some flights. NW's seats in first class are worse than Co's coach. They have reduced flights so that a missed flight can send you into the stand by hell that CB is in now. My co worker flies Delta and their service has gone to hell, so much so that he has tried out several others to get a better deal.

My solution has always been if it was a reasonable distance and I was not guaranteed a flight I would rent a car and drive home. I have done this from Atlanta and Houston several times.

Made it home....

Great points by northshore buck. All the flights are at 80-90% capacity and when there is one cancelled flight it takes 5-6 other flights to get those people home.

When I was working in AZ I flew America West and was pretty happy with them. If you had any type of status with them you were almost guaranteed a to the next flight out. Now they are merged with US Air I am sure they will be like the rest.

The upgrades are nice, but I think I will try SouthWest for a while and see how that goes. They actually have quite a few direct flights into Pittsburgh.

Midway or Milwaukee are great options, if you don't have to drive to get to Midway. The problem with O'Hare is that there are no short delays...if there is a delay at all, it is at least 3 hours.
