You can do it for only a few bucks using the train (Tri-Rail); you take a free shuttle from the airport (FLL) to the train station.

To and From the Airport.com - Fort Lauderdale

There is no train station at the terminal itself, but a TriRail shuttle bus (below) runs to the nearby station. Bus stops are located at the west end of Terminal 1, east end of Terminal 2, between terminals 3 and 4, and at the east end of Terminal 4, all on the lower levels. Note: This shuttle is free. This shuttle bus run round the terminals and to the Airport TriRail Station. Route: TriRail Station - Griffin Rd/Old Griffin Rd - Terminal 1 - Between Terminals 2&3 - Between Terminals 3&4 - SW 12th Ave/34th St - Tower - TriRail Station. Timings: Trains run Mon-Fri 0433-0007. Weekends 0610-2152.

Timings Southbound: Trains leave Ft Lauderdale Airport Station heading South towards Miami Mon-Fri at 0503, 0543, 0633 then every 20-60 mins until 1943, 2043 & 2143. Weekends every 2 hrs 0703-1903 & 2133. Trains leave West Palm Beach Airport Station heading South towards Fort lauderdale & Miami Mon-Fri at 0406, 0446, 0536 then every 20-60 mins until 1846, 1946 & 2046. Weekends every 2 hrs 0606-1806 & 2036.

Cost: $2 - $5 depending on distance traveled. Tickets must be bought before boarding.
