FSU QB Wyatt Sexton Mega-Merge

Had to add my two cents

Wyatt's Sermon on the Mount

This is the first I heard of this. It's extremely shocking. I covered the first game Wyatt started against North Carolina last year. I actually talked to him for about 10 minutes. "Bobby" was given is usual post-game press conference and everybody was surronding him. I happened to see Wyatt standing by himself. He had just go out of the locker room and was waiting to be interviewed. I quietly snuck over to where he was and started talking to him. He seemed like a great kid. He was real humble and didn't want to talk about himself at all.

But this situation does sound like its bi-polar, and I know how serious it can be. I actually lost my father to it. I was really too young to know him, but mom told me he was the nicest person in the world. But he'd go into his state and use drugs and become irrational and violent. It's a very serious issue and I hope he is able to be diagnosed before it's too late. Like I said, he seemed like a great kid.

P.S. I don't want to hi-jack this thread, but as much heat as Chris Rix took at FSU, he handled him self like a true professional. I was also the first person to talk to him after Sexton had that pretty good game against UNC. It was pretty clear, he wasn't going to get his job back at that point. I caught him as he was leaving the field and introduced myself. He was very polite. I told him, "you know I have to ask you about Wyatt today". He smiled, and starting raving about Wyatt's performance. You could tell he didn't have any sour grapes. It was almost like he was relieved because it meant the press was going to get off his back.

Going back to the topic. Tallahassee is a lot like Columbus when it comes to college football. These kids are under a lot of pressure to perform. I do believe that pressure may have caused Sexton to break.

One last sidenote, that UNC game was also the time I also caught Buster Davis as he was leaving the field. I don't know if I posted this here, I know I did at Bucknuts. I got some good quotes from him about the game, he's a real confident and outgoing person. Then I told him I was an OSU fan. It was funny, as soon as I said that he rolled his head back and said, "Awww man". I asked him if he would've signed the letter-of-intent if JT would've sent one. He looked at me and said, "You're damn straight I would've." Just imagine the LBer class of Hawk, Carpenter, D'Andrea and Davis. Oh well, if he did sign, I doubt Schlegel would've transferred here.

FSU will seek another year of eligibility

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Wyatt Sexton, the Florida State quarterback who was found disheveled and disoriented on a city street last month, has been diagnosed with Lyme disease and will miss the upcoming season, the university reported Saturday.

Florida State coach Bobby Bowden said the university would seek a sixth year of eligibility for Sexton, who has already used his redshirt season. He is the Seminoles' only experienced quarterback.

"It looks like Wyatt will need several months of treatment and will have to miss the season," Bowden said in a statement.

A specialist in the field of Lyme disease, Dr. S. Chandra Swami from Hermitage, Pa., said Sexton's organs have been infected and recommended intensive antibiotic therapy over a period of months.

"Wyatt has active Lyme Disease that has resulted in neuropsychiatric and cardiovascular deficits," Dr. Swami said.

The disease is curable, but the estimated recovery time for his advanced stage of infection is several months. If untreated, the disease can cause joint swelling and brain inflammation.

"We expect him to fully recover," Sexton's parents, Billy and Joy, said in a statement in the school's release. Billy Sexton is the running backs coach for the Seminoles.

The Seminoles will now choose between a pair of redshirt freshmen, Drew Weatherford and Xavier Lee, as the starting quarterback for their nationally televised season opener Sept. 5 against Miami. The team begins its preseason practice Aug. 9.

"It may come down to flipping a coin as to who starts the season," Bowden said.

Wyatt Sexton was the projected starter at quarterback. He played in 10 games in 2004, completing 55.2 percent of his passes for 1,661 yards and eight touchdowns. He also had eight interceptions.

On June 14, the 20-year-old Sexton was doused by pepper spray and taken to a hospital after he was found lying in the street and identifying himself as God. His parents released a statement a two days later that said drug abuse was not the problem.

Lyme disease bacteria are transmitted to humans by ticks that are carried by deer.

The disease is often identified by an expanding "bull's-eye" rash that develops days to weeks after a tick bite. Other symptoms include tiredness, fever, muscle aches and joint pain.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta said there are an increasing number of cases that are attributed to growing populations of deer that support deer ticks, more homes being built in wooded areas and better recognition and reporting of the disease, named in 1977 when a cluster was identified in Lyme, Conn.

In addition to Sexton, the Seminoles could also be without their two linebackers, Ernie Sims and A.J. Nicholson, for the Miami game because of recent run-ins with the law.

Florida State was 9-3 in 2004, but failed to win the Atlantic Coast Conference title for just the second time in 13 seasons, and wound up ranked 15th -- its fourth straight year outside the Top 10 in the final Associated Press poll.

When you look up "fucked at the QB position in 2005" in the dictionary there will be a picture of Burger King Bobby.

Funny thing is the media will keep them in the top 10 untill they lose 3.

well now... it was funny in a tragic sort of way when it appeared that the only thing wrong with Sexton was a little too much psylocybin in his system, but Lyme Desease is potentially fatal... i feel bad for making fun of him before, and i sincerely hope the kid makes a full recovery...

I do feel a little guilty for laughing at him now that this has come to light but when you consider all of the things that could've been wrong with him (bi-polar, schizophrenia, etc...)this is actually pretty good news. I still have my doubts as to him not being on some kind of hallucinogen at the time of his arrest. Let's just say I've got a lot of experience with people on those kinds of drugs and from the police report it really sounds like he was shrooming. He did just get back from Bonnaroo when this happened... Oh well, whatever the case I hope he can get better and move on with his life.

Where is this kid from?

I spend a lot of time in the woods and Lyme disease is almost unheard in the south. It is a Northeastern problem that is the result of the bite of a deer tick.

Anything is possible. Did they play at Boston College?

He had been in Tennessee for a concert shortly before his incident. It usually take several days after contact with the tick before symptoms appear.

Lyme disease is pretty nasty. It's good he got diagnosed before more damage to his health was done.

Jax, what is the general take on the X-Man?

Is he still a year away? What's the scoop?

Everything I heard out of spring practice was that Sexton was the only one capable of making consistent fundamental good decisions. Lee is the Million dollar arm and .05 head but to be fair I hear its due more to inexperience than outright stupidity.

Much like the JZ/TS scenario here last year only their guys are waaayyy behind where ours were in terms of maturity and decision making. Bowden was adamant that Sexton was his guy but after an entire spring practice to evaluate them, it was kinda like picking the smartest Hilton sister.

Now that Sexton's done they have exactly 2 scholarship QB's. Also the DL is inexperienced and the best guy there got suspended for the year. The top 2 LB's(Buster being one) are in legal trouble and could miss the Miami game and to add insult to injury concerning the QB's, OL is a big question mark in terms of talent.

Stacked at RB and WR from a young talent point of view.

IMO, FSU will continue the trend we have seen from them the past few years and be an 8-9 win team as they aren't getting any better but the ACC as a whole is.

Off the top of my head I'll bet their non traveling, mouth-breathing, mullet wearing, camo festooned faithful are going to be rewarded with yet another trip to Jax and the Gator Bowl. It's a good deal for them because its a Jan 1 game so they get their welfare checks in time and don't have to spend much money on gas to get here. Those extra large tired F-150's with the factory installed gun rack don't get real good gas mileage

As an old deer hunter I am pretty up to date on all the nasty things deer and other critters can have. Lyme disease has been referred to as the deer's revenge against the hunter. I know it is some bad stuff.

If you check the CDC site TN is almost completely white, 28 cases total. He is actually more likely to get it in FLA than TN.

I am not saying the doctor is wrong. I'm with 27 on this though, something does not add up. Then again it could just be a very unfortunate occurrence.

That bullseye rash can mean a nasty bite from other small nasty things also.

Damn JAX

I am a camo wearing, F-150 driving, FSU hating, So LA resident. I do not have a gun rack and I have a job.:tongue2:
