Free temporary internet connection?

Thump

Hating the environment since 1994
  • Question, my wife's free internet through OSU finally ran out and I want to install a new internet connection through AT&T but I don't have an active connection through my home to download the software so I didn't know if anyone had a free internet connection that would allow me to dial into a server just long enough to download the at&t software to install.

I know this is asking a lot but I tried to download the software on to my work computer to burn to a CD but the firewall prevents me from doing so.

Just pm me if you can help out. Greenies to anyone who can help me!

This is one you can use for free for 5 hours. Linkage. If you'd like I can e-mail you the software to an e-mail account as a filename.ex? name so it doesn't get deleted by the firewall, then you just rename it to filename.exe and you should be good to go.

When I go to save the document on to my work computer, it won't allow me to save the file b/c it says I don't have administrator accessibility to perform such actions.

Can you give yourself admin rights? Go to start/settings/control panel/users find your username there and change it from worker bee/garden variety schlep to Administrator and you'll have admin rights unless skippy the it boy has locked you down.

Still, I can e-mail the file to you and you should be able to save it off to a floppy or sandisk since it's only 1.2 mb.

Does your firewall allow you to download .zip files instead of .exe files?
If so, all that would need to be done is for the .exe to be re-packed into a .zip file and then sent (via e-mail) or placed on a friendly ftp server, to which you might be given temporary access.
(If the IT/IS police have your work computer wrapped up so tightly that you cannot even get a file of any type saved from the internet then you are effectively screwed).

One other thought - if there is an AT&T store near to you, see if they have a CD you can use, or if you have one the ubiquitous AOL Coffee Cup Coasters use that to get temporary access - get the AT&T install software, install the same, then immediately delete AOL and cancel that account.
