We've always separated BP from every other site by being a "no bashing" site...discussion/dissection/critique is possible without bashing players, coaches, and programs. There are dozens of other sites for that venting and version of "trashtalk" but BP is not one of them.

Its been that way since day one...

To be fair, I think he made that statement when/because he thought we were just playing with him. I took it to be him saying to US to sh*t or get off the pot.

Also, re his latest/last comments about JT - the ones I think are being categorized as bashing - were a response to somebody calling him out. He gave the only response he could have. I didn't think it was egregious.

I don't know what he's said via PM, but it's always been my understanding that what happens off-line here stays off line.

Far be it for me, still a relatively new member here, to try and unpack this mess and I'm not trying to defend a scummer, but I DO think having users like this around keeps us sharp. Certainly guys like grad, mili, steve, etc. don't need the hassle and exercise, but I know I, for one, benefit from it. With all due respect to methomps and gator, going toe-to-toe with them isn't the same as taking on folks from up north.

I wonder if HTM and the other TSUN homers aren't now going to leave their guns at home after having witnessed Sniper's demise.

Having said that, I trust the coaches...

That's what I meant... by him saying "sh*t or get off the pot" is a challanging statement to the powers that be. He very well could have cooled off and thought out his reaction rather than expressing himself in that tone.

All in all I do agree with you Shetuck. As long as things are kept in a respectable context then their constructive arguments are acceptable. But if they come to an OSU board and can't take some ribbing and react in a challanging manner...then they need to chill.

Hard to say with a straight face Grad when you type Dick Wad in the search field and get the number of hits that you do. No, you are
in no way as homeresque as most sites (and I'm including Gator Country), but yes, there are different rules for scUm topics than for others, no matter what the stated policy. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining or griping, and I'm not in any way critical of that, I'm just saying that your quote is not entirely accurate.

Now, as dumb as I am, it doesn't take a bunch of PMs to reel me in when I screw up (and I have), but I have to note that there aren't Mods cracking on me ono the board at the same time I'm getting the "be nice" PMs..

Untimately, it is Snipers choice where to hang out, and if he chooses to do it on a bitter rival's board, there are logical consequences. Put me in Warchant and I'l be banned.....again.:paranoid:

So what I am saying is not so much directed at Sniper the individual as an observation as a neutral observer that it would take an extraordinary poster to read all of the dickwad posts and not get hacked. But then, coach rod seems to me to be a dickwad, so whatchagonnado about that problem?:biggrin:

The key is, as you note, the rival aspect. If I go to a Wolverine website, I expect that I'll need to have thick skin re: their opinions about my guys. I dont know how long I could put up with people calling tressel dirty, etc. as I'm sure goes on on those boards... I'd probably crack too... but.. I also know this, and thus I dont go to them.

While you may have a point re: the particulars of 21's statement, he left one thing out that is key to the philosophy of this site, I think....

No one is forcing anyone to be here. Commuity rules rule. Conform or leave. For this "reputation" BP used to get the "clique" marker... it's where BK's elitist jokes have their genesis.... More to the point, if BP is indeed elitist, we're fine with that.

I don't know what Clarity would say, but I'm pretty sure he'd agree... as would 21 and pretty much anyone you'd ask.... the small, community rules, format was best... Back then... we were all mods, pretty much (well, I wasn't for a few days... I was more in the troll category :wink2:)

It is 100% accurate...just poorly clarified to someone who has not been here for years. The "no bashing" applies to all things tOSU...other programs and coaches are fair game, but we do try to reel in the extreme stuff to keep discussion somewhat possible.

Look at who gave his infractions...BB73, Methomps, Steve19, and me. That is 3 patient, logical mods and one asshole admin. Also, I'd like to note that my infraction was given in the recruiting forum after he continued making cracks in recruit's threads after being told to stop. In other words...he persisted and made his own bed here.

You hit it on the head...nobody forces an outside fan to come to BP.
