Former S&C Coach Allan Johnson

Not really a big deal in my opinion but we'll see.

This is actually a pretty big deal. Do you know what Tressels record is when leading at halftime? Last time I checked, hes only lost once. I have the Iowa game taped from this year, saying something crazy like 31-1 when leading at half. So I have to assume its about 37-1 currently? A great S&C coach makes a world of difference. All the people that brag about OSUs ability to come on strong in the last half of the season, or even the last half of games - thats all attributed to the S&C coach for having the boys physically prepared to go 12,13, 14 games and not be worn down and ready to quit.

Here are the halftime scores in all of Tressel's losses at Ohio State:

UCLA 10, Ohio State 6 (Sept 22, 2001)
Ohio State 17, Wisconsin 7 (Oct 13, 2001)
Ohio State 13, Penn State 9 (Oct. 27, 2001)
Illinois 21, Ohio State 10 (Nov 17, 2001)
South Carolina 14, Ohio State 0 (Jan 01, 2002)
Wisconsin 7, Ohio State 3 (Oct 11, 2003)
Michigan 21, Ohio State 7 (Nov 22, 2003)
Northwestern 13, Ohio State 10 (Oct 2, 2004)
Wisconsin 14, Ohio State 13 (Oct 9, 2004)
Iowa 10, Ohio State 0 (Oct 16, 2004)
Purdue 17, Ohio State 3 (Nov 13, 2004)
Ohio State 16, Texas 13 (Sep 10, 2005)
Penn State 14, Ohio State 10 (Oct 08, 2005)

So, at the time of the 2005 Iowa game, Tressel had lost 3 times when leading at halftime...

I think he was referring to the claim that we are up for some NCAA trouble....but I could be wrong.

I think that has as much or more to do with the coaches making phenomenal adjustments in their schemes than with conditioning. Dantonio was the master of making halftime adjustments to the defense. The 2nd half scoring in 2002 was astonishing.

Actually, it comes down to both coaching adjustments and conditioning. I don't care what scheme adjustments you make, if you're dog tired in the fourth quarter, you're toast. We've been very fortunate to have had top-quality coaches in both arenas...

According to the official site:
"Allan Johnson, Ohio State's director of football strength and conditioning, has announced his resignation to pursue other career opportunities. Johnson, whose resignation takes effect Aug. 31, has been a member of the Ohio State staff since the summer of 2001."
So he wasn't fired, and he'll at least be around until right before the start of the season, which should help the transition of the S&G coach.

Your S & C guys are super important as they spend a tremendous amount of time with the players. There is alot of time when coaches are not allowed to be with the players. The S & C guys ARE during those times. So they are important not only in their ability to develop a great "program" but to be able to relate, motivate and recognize football adjustments required while working with the team.:wink2:
Al will be missed but you can bet that he will be replaced with someone of quality.

I bet they bring Mike Cochran Back as strength coach (who was an asst. under Johnson)....and went with Snyder to Marshall

Mike was Tressels strength coach at YSU and I know coach Tressel brought him with him from YSU.

Incidently, Mike's brother Nick played quarterback for Tressel at YSU and won a Nat'l championship (if memory serves). Out of high school (Girard) , Nick signed LOI to play for OSU and then redshirted and later transfered to YSU...he was behind Joe Pickens who also transfered, Nick probably would have been our starting QB had he stayed.
