Metzer is expected to compete with Drue Chrisman for punting time.

On Monday night, former Penn State punter, Jake Metzer, announced that he will walk-on to the Ohio State football team. Rated as the No. 2 college-transfer punter in the country, Metzer has three years of eligibility remaining, and because he was never on PSU’s active roster, he will be able to compete for punting time immediately.

Metzer, a Doylestown, PA native, didn’t see any action with the Nittany Lions as true freshman All-American Blake Gillikin took the starting duties. Now, Metzer will be competing against another highly-touted punter in Drue Chrisman. With Cameron Johnston now signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, the pair will look to fill the Aussie’s formidable shoes.

Ohio State ranked first in the Big Ten last year with a 45.9 yard average per punt, and a net average (which includes returns) of 43.1, which was 4.5 yards more than second-place Michigan. Johnston wrapped up his four-year career with a 44.9 yard average.
