Making the announcement on Twitter, Perry, who was a fourth-round pick in the stellar OSU draft class of 2016, noted that he recently sustained his sixth documented concussion and didn’t want to put his future and wellbeing in jeopardy.
Perry had three highly productive seasons in Columbus as a Buckeye. As a sophomore, he was featured in 11 games and tallied 62 tackles. His breakout season came in 2014; he had 124 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and an interception en route to a national championship.
Against the Oregon Ducks in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, Perry had six tackles. On top of the title, Perry also was part of four Ohio State squads that defeated Michigan—which, arguably, is just as important as a national title victory.
After his senior season in 2015, Perry entered the NFL Draft. He was selected with the 102nd overall pick by the San Diego Chargers. But after being waived and placed on injured reserve in 2017, Perry wound up going to Indianapolis, where he played in two games during the 2017 season. In total, he appeared in 17 NFL games—and tallied eight tackles.
We wish the best for Joshua on his future endeavors.
