The Buckeye big man will get another chance to play basketball.

The Amir Williams era at Ohio State may not be fondly remembered by many Ohio State fans, as Williams was never quite able to live up to his lofty billing as a recruit while in Columbus. But Amir Williams will get another chance to continue his basketball career and develop, now in the D-League, as he was drafted 6th overall by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, an affiliate of the Houston Rockets.

Williams, a former McDonalds All-American as a high school player, averaged 6.4 points and 4.7 rebounds a game during his senior season at Ohio State, while playing 19.5 minutes a night. Over his last two seasons as a Buckeye, Williams showed flashes of solid rim protecting ability, while also demonstrating effective free throw shooting for a big man, but he struggled with consistency, a fluid offense, and with his hands during his Buckeye career.

After struggling at the Portsmouth Invitational, it wasn't totally clear that Williams would continue a career in professional basketball, but now he has a chance to grow with a successful organization. We wish Amir nothing but the best as he continues his career.
