How do you think Frank Fredericks felt in the 1996 Olympics? He runs a 19.68 race, which otherwise would've been the world record, only to get blown out by .36 seconds...that had to suck.

USA Track & Field has some amazing young athletes, especally sprinters.I think Carter should go down as the perfect example of a track guy playing football. He had practically unrivaled speed, but was never a dominant force on the football field. That said, he'll be a heck of a boost to our Olympic track team.
Not to mention the bronze medal winner in that race, Ato Boldon. His 19.80 would win most meets in the world, not to mention the 2000 Olympics by almost .3 seconds (winner was 20.09 that year) and second in the 2004 Olympics by .01 seconds. That was just an amazing race to watch. How do you think Frank Fredericks felt in the 1996 Olympics? Fantastic four give 200-meter dash a lot of splash

The men's 100 meters has long been track's glamour event, but it will be overshadowed in this weekend's AT&T USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships by the 200. Six of the biggest names in sprinting are entered, including four youngsters who have lit up a race dormant for nearly a decade.
The meet, beginning Thursday in Indianapolis, is the qualifier for the world championships in Osaka, Japan, Aug. 25-Sept. 2. The first round of the 200 is Saturday; the semifinals and final are Sunday.
Xavier Carter, Wallace Spearmon Jr., Tyson Gay and Walter Dix — none older than 24, but four of the six fastest in 200 history — have created buzz in an event that lost luster after Michael Johnson retired in 2001. Johnson brought huge attention to the 200 in 1996, when he broke a 17-year-old world record in the U.S. Olympic trials, then lowered it to 19.32 seconds in the Atlanta Games.
Dix says he's focused on the 100 this weekend and might drop from the 200 after a long season at Florida State that included the world's best 200 time this year, 19.69 seconds. Still, the event should have a top field.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Xavier Carter, who has the second-fastest 200 meters in history, was carried off the track on a stretcher after injuring his right leg in the event's semifinals Sunday at the U.S. track and field championships.
Carter grabbed his right thigh about 120 meters into the race, staggered a few steps, then tumbled to the ground. He lay there for several minutes before being carried away.
An MRI was planned, but his agent Mark Block said Carter is believed to have injured his iliotibial band, a group of fibers that run on the outside of the thigh from the hip to the knee.
"He felt it coming off the turn," Block said. "He actually felt it earlier than we saw. He felt it tightening up and all of a sudden he felt a pop."
Could it be that he saw a better opportunity with track than football? He has made his name well-known on the international circuit. Before this injury he was setting up nicely for a bid to the 2008 Olympics... he is currently ranked #4 in the world in the 200m.Taosman;870888; said:Incredible athlete that did not translate to football.
Could be easy to say he is a head case?
I don't know.

Depending on when the article was originally written it was technically correct. When he was injured in the semis he still had the 2nd fastest time. The source article has since been changed from focusing on X's injury to Gay winning the 200m in 19.62, giving him the 2nd fastest time (0.01 faster than X).lightyears2012;870875; said:The article should say X has the 3rd fastest 200m in history...
Good to hear it wasn't the IT band... that is a pain to rehab (had issues with mine in college).Carter's agent Mark Block initially thought Carter had injured his iliotibial band, a group of fibers that run on the outside of the thigh from the hip to the knee. However, further examination showed that Carter's kneecap had popped out of place, then popped back in.

I think Lee has quit football, also? We were recruiting Lee at one point.
