COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The top spokeswoman for the Ohio State football program for the past four years has been reassigned to duties elsewhere within the school's sports information department.

Shelly Poe, responsible for handling communications and public relations for Buckeyes football, will now oversee women's soccer and softball, men's and women's swimming and all on-campus championships. She was inducted into the college sports information directors Hall of Fame in 2006. Poe was athletic communications director at her alma mater, West Virginia, from 1988 until she was brought to Ohio State in 2007.

Jerry Emig will take over football after managing for four years the same sports Poe will now handle.

The moves were revealed Friday by Dan Wallenberg, the assistant athletic director for communications.

:sad2: Shelly was such a breath of fresh air over the last half decade () , a consummate professional but friendly.

She was a major part of OSU dramatically increasing their accessibility to the press, more access to scrimmages, interviews, etc.

But most of all she was the pr head of the biggest CFB team in America and was as down to earth as someone in charge of a small middle school program.

My bsb compadres love the guy who is replacing her, but I am very sad to see her reassigned. She will be missed.

Shelley Poe, former media liaison for Ohio State football, has accepted the same position at Auburn.

During the height of the NCAA investigation last spring, Poe was shifted from football to several nonrevenue sports. It led to speculation that she was somehow to blame for the public relations black eye the school received from a news conference on March 8 when Ohio State revealed that coach Jim Tressel had not told superiors of emails warning him of players accepting improper benefits.

But insiders say that event was orchestrated by higher-ranking officials, and the timing was coincidental.

Poe gained respect as the football sports information director for West Virginia. She was lured to Ohio State in 2007 under the premise that the school wanted a more open approach, but Tressel never loosened the reins. She is expected to have a wider license at Auburn.
