Former DC Kerry Coombs (Cincy Bearcats Interim Head Coach)

My fear is if there is a bad scheme, and OSU continues with Coombs too long, then they are looking at a Don Brown and Meatchicken scenario. The defensive program goes on a systematic downward slide that not only results in losses but also recruiting issues that becomes a mainstay.

Recruiting isn’t an issue at this point… the lack of development is more concerning

Last year we gave up the most points per game in school history.

Two games in this year - 66 points and 913 yards.

6 five star and 34 four star athletes on defense.

These are the facts of the case - and they are undisputed.

Evidently this is the first time in school history we've given up 30+ points in the first two games of a season.

eh wouldn’t put too much stock into that because normally at least 1 of the first two is a G5 or lower…
I'm a firm believer that we shouldn't give up 30+ twice in a season unless special teams are atrocious and gives up a bunch with Defensive scores. The other teams Offense shouldnt score more than 30 points more than twice in a season. Playoffs and crazy Top 5 matchups notwithstanding

Here’s my visual representation of Coombs making no adjustments and calling the exact same play from the sideline for three straight quarters hoping his defense stops getting embarrassed.

The most-likely scenario, in my mind, with Coombs is he retires at the end of the season rather than get outright fired.

The sad thing is we won't learn anything the next few weeks because Ohio State overmatches opponents.

End of the day, Ryan Day knows he needs to make a change and will. But Coombs won't get fired unless he refuses to leave (which he won't).
