Former coach Cooper to be a part of polling

If nothing else, this poll will be an intersting read if they are going publish how each voted. I have the utmost respect for pretty much everyone on that list. It would be interesting to see a poll done by them.

There certainly are a few more names that could go on the list though.

I actually think that this is the best of any of the polls. These guys didn't get jobs at big-time programs because they don't know football. These guys know more about football than any media guy, and have more time to analyze game tapes than any current coaches. Now, if they let these guys actually look at the tapes and wait for their votes until Wednesday or Thursday then I think that this could be an even better poll. Just don't ask Cooper to vote on the big games, or he might just choke.

Oooohh.. Low blow!

I didn't look at the list. The whole deal of people getting together and "deciding" who the good teams are still bothers me. I know we aren't going to get a playoff to fix it anytime soon, so I'll just not let it bother me. This, I'm sure, is the best possible solution to the problem.

When talking to the BCS, Curtin proposed $60,000 a coach. Dooley said last week that he doesn't think a figure that high is probable.

60 Thousand to write down who you think are the top 25 teams in the nation? Where do I sign up?

I don't feel that this is as useless as some of you are saying. IF it ends up being a better way to rank teams. It could be used as a type of selection committee in future years. I don't believe that the BCS will always be around, but if we can get some way of rating teams that deserve to be playoff bound, that's not tied to regional bias, conference tie-ins, or coaches assistants filling out ballots. Then that would be the best way to go. I think that this is definitely a step in the right direction for college football.

60 grand does seem a little steep, but with everything that's on the line, and the crazy amount of hours that should be spent evaluating teams. I don't think it's too ridiculous of a number.

given the names listed, this will easily be the best human poll to date. we're not going to ever get a playoff, so anything we can do to make the bcs more accurate the better. the 60k doesn't bother me. we are talking about ex coaches. alot of these guys could walk out and make a couple hundred grand per year. you have to offer them enough to take it seriously.

Ideally, Curtin said, the Masters Survey would like a weekly television presence to announce the polls, as well as a radio call-in show with some of the coaches. There also are plans for a Web site, Curtin said.
maybe have a coaches round table to break down the top 25, why they are where they are and where the coaches think they will end up. i know id watch. that alone would turn out more than enough profit for your 60k a pop.
