Report: Former 5-Star Lineman Considering Ohio State Transfer

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? According to multiple reports this week, including one from The Gainesville Sun, former 5-star prospect Matt Patchan is considering a transfer to Ohio State.
Patchan, a top-20 player in the class of 2008, has played in 27 games during an injury-plagued career at the University of Florida where he originally signed on to play for current OSU head coach Urban Meyer.
According to the reports, Patchan is primarily considering a transfer to Ohio State, where he could reunite with Meyer in Columbus, or Boston College, where the Eagles recently hired Meyer?s former offensive coordinator, Steve Addazio, to run the program.
A native of the Tampa area, Patchan played in 11 games ? including one start against Kentucky ? on the defensive line for the Gators during Meyer?s second BCS national championship run back in 2008. He was only a freshman on that team, but he cracked the rotation up front for then-defensive coordinator Charlie Strong.
The 6-6, 300-pound Patchan was sidelined for the final three games of the season because of a leg injury. He switched over to offensive line the following season, where he played under Addazio before a torn ACL caused him to miss the final 10 games of the season.
He would receive a medical redshirt for that season, but the rest of his career in Gainesville was also marred by injuries. He missed the entire 2010 season but returned in 2011 as Florida?s starting right tackle.
Patchan played in a career-high 12 games during the 2011 season, starting the final seven games of the regular season for Will Muschamp before missing the Gator Bowl against Ohio State because of a pectoral injury.

His exit from Gainesville comes on the heels of a 2012 season where he never even dressed for the Gators because of a torn pectoral muscle. He was expected to be the team?s starting right tackle, and could help Meyer fill the void left by Reid Fragel.
The former tight end is Ohio State?s only departing senior on the offensive line, but the Buckeyes do have a talented young freshman in Taylor Decker who will likely assume Fragel?s starting spot on the line.
Patchan was a redshirt junior at Florida in 2012. He has already graduated from the University and can exercise the transfer rule which would allow him to enroll at graduate school and play right away for either Ohio State or Boston College.
The Buckeyes have a limited number of scholarships available for next season, but Patchan would only be a one-year gamble if Meyer and his staff decide they want to give the former 5-star lineman another chance to become the player injuries have kept him from being over the last four years.
Ohio State only has one true offensive line prospect committed for the 2013 class in Centerville?s Evan Lisle, with the possibility of a few others ? Billy Price and Donovan Munger ? switching over to play on that side of the ball.
