    Your chances of career success may rely more on where you live than you think. In compiling our list of the best cities for young professionals, we tracked where the graduates of top universities across the country ended up 10 years out of school; where the best business opportunities exist; which cities had the most young and unmarried people; and which cities paid young professionals the best. Here is a rundown of the 40 biggest cities and where they stacked up as locales for young professionals.
     
    NY and SF are both great cities... Chicago should be ranked higher... Charlotte (#13) is only ranked as high as it is because the effect of Bank of America and Wachovia (as well as smaller alt. investment shops) on salary versus cost of living ... After spending a weekend home, Columbus would be a great city it it could just attract more jobs...

    I wonder what the list is like globally. I'm considering transferring to a site in England for an ex-pat assignment in a couple years.

    Cincinnati beating Columbus was pretty surprising to me. I grew up in Cincinnati, but if my company had a job opportunity in Columbus I'd take it in a heartbeat. And not just for obvious reasons like proximity to the Horseshoe. It seems like the neighborhoods are nicer. Not to mention the nightlife kills what the 'Nati has to offer.
