Game Thread For the Natty vs Notre Dame, Jan. 20th, 7:30 ET on ESPN

I for one will not be a fan who will over look ND and act like it will be a easy win.

ND is very Xichigan like. They play hard and slow things down. Day (and Chip) seem to have a difficult time attacking when teams kind of bracket the receivers. TX also gave OSU fits yesterday.

I like OSU's chances, but it is a very cautiously optimistic outlook for me with the natty.

I’m mostly with you but in fairness I really don’t think ND has the athleticism Texas does up front or in the defensive secondary. In my useless opinion I think they were certainly a step up from Oregon.

I agree it’s going to be hard; if they bracket and allocate a ton of coverage to Smith make them pay elsewhere. Even if he isn’t getting the ball he impacts the game immensely which is insane.

Clean up the penalties, that can’t happen again,

Well at least Chip and Day can prepare for a similar D, with knowledge of it now.

Just sayin': There's always room at the Woody hayes Athletic Center for one more. Bring it home boys.

Might be a bit off topic but I happened to be in Columbus because my wife had an academic conference there. I went out for breakfast because the free one sucked at our hotel and went to the WHAC on a whim. I got lost in time seeing the hardware that came from those games I’ve watched since I was a toddler. The inaugural CFP trophy was amazing to see in person but the one from the Miami game just had this vibe. I got lost in that memory for a long time just staring at the trophy. All of the memorabilia was amazing but the Tressel era championship, at least for me was so special.

If you haven’t been there it’s so worth a trip.

Need to go back and watch the ‘22 and ‘23 matchups to see how they play compared to this year. In ‘22 they definitely played back and made OSU dink and dunk.

Comes down to how well the OL can open up holes to push them out of soft coverage and Howard being patient and not turning the ball over.
I think they will need to dink and dunk to eventually, and force ND to change. Chip needs to be more creative with his run and pass schemes than Texas. He definitely can do it.

With ND likely to play much more man than Texas, I think we'll see a lot more pre-snap motion to get our speed loose and give Will more keys to read pre-snap. Hoping for more tight and bunch formations to alternately keep extra blockers in and rub DBs off our WRs.

RB’s in the pass game should be heavily featured underneath. Yes, ND will redo the 23 coverages. But McCord had many opportunities to strike in that game and missed until the last drive. I am confident Howard and Chip Kelly will not.

I’m interested to see the film breakdowns for Texas to see if the offensive game plan was mid or Texas forced them into things they weren’t great at doing.

Early in the game they moved the ball well, but the execution wasn't quite there. As the game went on, they couldn’t run and force Texas into different looks and everything stagnated.

They’re better than they were, but running without the benefit of the passing game opening things is the weakness of this team. Hoping that ND can’t run a zone as well and Chip has different ways to attack.

I also hope they work in more screens to Henderson and WRs. Keep waiting for the tunnel screens they used in the first 3 games to come back. Especially since Henderson lines up wide.

Gave a quick look-see over at IrishEnvy on their national championship thread.
Got a handful of posters that actually appear to evaluate competition with a logical mind.

The part that has and will continue to make me chuckle when looking at other teams pages (and I'm certain BP has elements of this) is that it's amazing to sit there and pump up all your team's positive in contrast to the competition while completing ignoring the glaring deficiencies of your own squad.
Example: Will Howard is trash. Domer D has best secondary that the Buckeyes will face. Buckeyes only beat Longhorns because Sark made a mistake.
All the while, missing the fact that Leonard is more suck on passing than good (he's had some positive impact throws, but sure as shit not consistent). Their WR room is meh. OL is banged up to the point it may be in worse shape than the Buckeyes.
Notre Dame defense is good, but statistics is the only metric that somewhat eliminates transitory effects. However, I don't think they have three level soundness like Texas does.

And lastly, playing with heart obviously impacts how a team goes and ND has played with a fair amount. Yet, these myopic twats don't realize or maybe just ignore what has been publicly stated by Buckeye players for weeks on end. This is net neutral at best for them.

Anyway, won't be wasting any more time over there.
Just not worth it when their own "logical" posters get shamed for doing so.
