Game Thread For the Natty vs Notre Dame, Jan. 20th, 7:30 ET on ESPN

ND is not a zone scheme defense but they are going to have to be in this game....they can't man up with and Freeman alluded to that too. Changing your scheme for one game is obviously incredibly difficult. With Mills out and Cross having a high ankle sprain, they just don't have much talent on the DL so our OL and Will should have plenty of time.

ND was very, very lucky they got to play UGA with a backup QB and PSU who has zero WR talent, and even then they barely eeked it out.

This should be a comfortable OSU win, book it!
No thanks. I’d prefer not to go into this game with h a plunger attitude. Oregon (1) and Michigan have left me with a differ

Georgia's backup QB threw for 235 yards on them, moved the ball well enough at times.

High ankle sprains usually linger and take time to heal. Cross' injury was serious as he has missed three games because of it. Its likely he will play but you have to question his health and conditioning over four quarters of play.
Compare that to JTs ankle injury and on Sawyers legendary play JT was part of the convoy of Silver Bullets racing 80 yards downfield.

Yeah, Cross was getting destroyed by PSUs OL, I'm not sure why he was even still out there....hurting himself and the team.
ND has the worst offense we've played in the playoffs....a QB and WRs that won't consistently be able to threaten deep, you can play man and pin your ears back. A RB that is limited, an OL that is beaten....you can circle the wagons in high school but not for a natty. Ransom and Downs are going to have a freaking heyday.

Watts and Kiser are great, but that just isn't enough for them....their LBs are tough up the middle but get Judkins and Henderson out on the edges and they aren't keeping up.

I think their best bet is to have to win the turnover game at least by 2, and throw some wild coverages at Will....who has struggled to pick up when ends drop back into coverage. He has no reason to make the risky throws like he had to with Texas, just make the smart play.

Not lost on me is the fact we've met NoD in either a major regular season game or a bowl game almost every 10 years for the last 3 decades.

96' 06' 2016' 2025'...

We'll see them again in 2035 for something important,.I'm sure.

Saw that NoD is going to be down their LT and a guard. Dline should be licking their chops.

Notre Dame LT Anthonie Knapp (ankle) out for CFP title game

Notre Dame starting left tackle Anthonie Knapp will miss the Jan. 20 College Football Playoff National Championship game against Ohio State with a high ankle sprain, coach Marcus Freeman said Sunday.

Knapp suffered the injury in Notre Dame's 27-24 Capital One Orange Bowl win against Penn State. Graduate senior Tosh Baker replaced Knapp in the second quarter.

Freeman also said starting right guard Rocco Spindler, who suffered an apparent ankle injury against Penn State, will try to practice this week. Charles Jagusah replaced Spindler against Penn State.

"We'll see how he progresses the week of practice," Freeman said. "I know he'll give everything he has to make sure he's prepared. As far as the starting lineup, we'll do what's best for our program. We've got to figure that out. We have a week of preparation to make sure we get the right guys to start this game, and we'll see what that is here in the next couple of days."

Freeman said running back Jeremiyah Love, who has been dealing with a right knee injury, is expected to be "full go" against Ohio State, but wide receiver Beaux Collins is still dealing with a calf strain that sidelined him for much of the Penn State game. Collins is second on the team in receptions with 37 for 458 yards, three touchdowns and 30.5 yards per game.

"J-Love is good to go," Freeman said of his leading rusher. "Beaux's still healing. ... He'll work back into practice here the next couple of days, but I hope that as long as he progresses, he'll be good to go for the game. But we've got to make sure that he progresses as we go through this week."

Read all 13 pages of the game thread at irishenvy.com. Wow they are a more confident there than we are here. They seem to admit for the most part that Ohio state has better players at most spots, but that does not deter their confidence at all. So I’ve approximated where their confidence comes from:

30% they have grit and can pound the rock
30% their trust in freeman and his desire to beat his Alma mater
20% Ohio state is overrated and overconfident
15% team of destiny/ gods plan
10% Ryan Day runs like a girl
5% people from Ohio are stupid
5% Ryan day jumped into Jack Sawyers arms
5% they are 12-2-1 against the spread this year

So that’s 120% and is exactly how confident they are in victory.
