Living in Oregon, you'd swear that the east-coast bias was so strong that there isn't any swooning. Or at least, that's what I'm told to believe.

Excellent observation. I think we should take note and reflect on this in a few years.

Imagine this: when the SEC, ACC, and the Longhorn Network (the Big 12 is screwed) follow suit, ESPiN will have to regard the Big East as a powerhouse for college football! If you thought non-AQ schools were being unjustly propped up by ESPiN, this is only the beginnning.

I am certain there is a war going on between Disney and Rupert Murdock that was started with the Big Ten Network (Fox) and SEC's comitment to ESPN with their huge contract. I fully believe and hope that Delany and the Pack Ten know what they are doing....It appears they have drawn a line in the sand and are trying to take controll of there own marketing and profit in regards to football and a lesser extent basketball (they both signed agreements with Fox for their championship games).... It is real and the problem is that ESPN controlls such a huge portion of coverage that they are using it to manipulate the news....all the way down to recruiting. Fox and the "old cash cows" PAC and B1G need to really amp up the process instead of sitting back while this all comes together.....its like they took on this media giant, half ass and they really need nationally syndicated college sports coverage with well paid poached talking heads and go after it covering what they deem as news. Otherwise I think this bullshit could take its toll and leave a large section of the country in the dust as far as proper coverage.

The point is that will change if the SEC starts their own network. I don't know the length or specifics of the SEC's television contracts, but the SEC will eventually have their own network if that's where the money is.

Bottom line is always money. ESPiN is self-serving and will promote and build up the teams/conferences they televise. ESPiN loathes the fact that the B10 has their own network.

The Southeastern Conference has signed a 15-year deal with ESPN reportedly worth more than $2 billion to televise sporting events, including football and men's and women's basketball.
The agreement announced Monday is the longest ESPN has ever signed and matches the length of the powerhouse league's deal with CBS earlier in August.

The deal begins with the 2009-10 season and ends the league's look into starting a network to carry its sporting events.
ESPN will have rights to every SEC home football game not on the network package and all league matchups will be shown on some outlet, including at least 20 a year on ESPN or ESPN2. That includes two primetime Thursday night matchups and Saturday night games.
"We're thrilled with the historic nature of this deal," ESPN executive vice president John Skipper said, adding that college sports have been "part of our DNA" for nearly 30 years. "It's not hard to figure why we'd want to be involved with it, given the quality of SEC sports, for 15 more years."

It's a pretty bad ass deal that the SEC has. I also believe that it's modifiable, and most likely will be with the continued improvement of the BTN and the advent of the PTN.

There might be a way to get rid of Mark May. If ESPN let Erin Andrews on set with him and Holtz. Maybe he could pull a "Ron Franklin" and out the door he goes. But with the viewers luck Trev Alberts comes back through that door.
