Team knows its turf

Golf management students place in top 10 in contest

A team of golf course management students from Horry-Georgetown Technical College proved its turf knowledge recently in an academic competition that pitted the students against 80 teams from schools across the nation.
The five local students placed No. 7 overall and No. 2 on the essay portion of the Collegiate Turf Bowl Competition in Anaheim, Calif., which college officials say speaks volumes about the quality of the two-year program.

The local group beat many graduate students and students from four-year colleges, including Ohio State University, Penn State, Rutgers, Southern Illinois University and Mississippi State University.

That's pretty good. I spoke to a class at the stadium yesterday that had those guys in it. If fact, they were going back after class to speak to the reporter for the article. They also whipped up on Clemson, who finished 39th and 40th!! Every time I speak to a class from Tech., the introductions include "he's a graduate of two fine universities, The Ohio State University and Horry Georgetown Tech.!"
