Football, Basketball, Baseball Poll

Hey guys, new on this forum. Been a casual fan of Ohio State ever since Clarett's OT TD run. I've been having an argument with someone about how important each collegiate sport is...and the pull each takes in...and then it got down to two specific seasons.

I may get bashed here but if anyone wanted to throw their input on this so I can settle an argument, it would be much appreciated:

Answered with Team B. I think 1 NCAA title vs. 0 NCAA titles (particularly in basketball with an excellent tournament) when looking only at 3 sports trumps anything else. Even still Team B also has the BCS bowl victory. But Team A was consistently and highly competitive in all 3 with the conference titles, and that is a big deal as well. It is arguable which program has the better season and also depends on the priorities of the school.

The relative respect i would have for the football portion of each resume depends entirely on the conference and who they played in their bowl game.

FWIW: Football is the only part of the resume I care about.

I picked Team B because I think NCAA Titles won compared to the higher rankings in the beginning of a season and no Titles won. If you look at basketball and baseball they have season ending tournaments to determine the REAL winners of their NCAA titles. Where in football everything is still Mythical (Except in divisions 1-AA 2 and 3 where they do have a playoff systems. But all that will end in 2014 when there will be a true for a NCAA title in football. I never did like the system where sport beat writers and sports magazines would put out a list of who should be the number 1 ranking(especially in football) 3 to 4 weeks before the season even started.
That type of system is not right.

Thanks for the responses. I've clearly gotten quite a few more from this board. As far as the no contest comment, some people feel baseball is an important collegiate sport. I'm not defending that opinion either way because it'd show what I feel is the right vote, but yea, A won the conference in baseball and B didnt...but B did better in the post season in football, basketball.

... but how much better is unknowable with the information given. If A, a conference champion, is from the B1G and lost in the NC game, while B is from the MWC or WAC and is just the latest team to beat "Big Game Bob" in a BCS game, then A gets more respect from me.

I believe that's the point of the poll though. Each fan base you ask likely works from the reference point that their university is the one they're projecting with the two scenarios.

Ohio St fans probably take the results for Team B every single time. A Rice or TCU or Arizona St fan perhaps goes with Team A.

Whether or not your alma mater has been historically successful in baseball or basketball defines which season outcome is more ideal to you.

We live in the north. With all due respect to the Buckeye Boys of Summer, they can't compete with basketball... and basketball is football's teeny tiny baby brother around here. That makes college baseball a pimple on a flies ass compared to football.

Again, no offense Buckeye baseball team... but it's the truth.

So, my question for you, Thatsmygrell, is were you on A's side or B's side? Is the fan for team A from the south? He must be. Also, are we talking about a real scenario? Mind sharing who the teams are? You must have based this on a real situation.

Also, let's be serious, Team B DOMINATED Team A in basketball. There could be an argument that they has similar football teams. Team A won a conference championship but lost the BCS game. Team B missed out all together on a CCG, but won a BCS game. So yeah, it depends a lot on the conference. Is Team A the 2012 Northern Illinois team? Is Team B the 2011 Alabama football team who missed the SEC CCG but won the NCG game? I realize you said they were ranked 7th but need more info to determine the better football season.

Even if we say the football seasons are close enough to be a tie, the basketball championship sooooo out-weighs the baseball season that it makes Team B the clear winner.

Team B is the 2007-08 Kansas Jayhawks, who went 12-1 and won the Orange Bowl vs. VTech. Their hoops team went 37-3, defeating Memphis for the national title. I'm not sure about Team A.

I'll take the NC in basketball and BCS bowl victory over conference championships. As another poster noted though, it would be helpful to put this in context.

Team A could be the 1997-98 Tennessee Vols, who won the conference championship in football and lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Nope: I got it. 2012-13 Kansas State is team A. This is an all Kansas debate.
