anyone here know anything about fm signals?

I'm trying to pull in a radio station that's about 80 miles away.
i've tried every indoor option i can think of (amplifiers, wires, dipoles)

is bigger better?

i've heard you can use an old school tv antenna.
anyone ever try this?
does it work worth a shit?

Bigger is not necessarily better. Higher is usually better, and if you can do outdoors that's usually better than indoors.

FM radio frequencies are part of the VHF band, so if you have an outdoor, directional VHF antenna that might be worth a shot. Going that route might save you some money over buying a new antenna. If you don't already have that setup though, I would probably go with one of the setups utgrad suggested.

You might also try going to a RadioShack that has an old manager - some guy who's been with the company for 20+ years. They'll know all about this stuff, and most importantly, should know about that stuff in your area because it depends in part on the local environment.

our Radio Shacks only employ over weight inbred females with most of their teeth missing.

they are also some of the most uneducated beings on the planet, and none of them are old enough to even know that TVs once needed them things.

A lot of fm stations have an Internet presence. And the sound can be much, much better! Google your station. (Internet radio is awesome, baby! I use a Squeezebox Duet.)

Make sure you get a good hi-fi to wire it through. You want stereo, though, none of that mono shit. They're doing great things with compression tubes these days...

i'm just trying to catch a couple baseball games a week.
LSU's website game stream is subscription only
the radio station itself is not allowed to stream the games either.

when the New Orleans AM station carries the game, i catch it clear as day.
but when on ly the Baton Rouge FM carries it, i'm fucked.
