Optimism Lover
Just curious as to how often you gentlemen buy your lady flowers and when was the last time? I get a kick out of the middle-agers in my family who NEVER buy their wives flowers.

The thing is, they're ridiculously easy to get. They're fairly inexpensive. And, they can easily make your woman's day. So what's the hold up? I might get slammed for this post, but you know...I'm just trying to improve some relationships around here. No one is above a reminder after all.

I'm just a youngster (25) and not married yet, but I buy my girlfriend flowers every two months or so and I try to mix the selection up. If you want to blow her away, go for the Calla Lilies.

A note for you rookies or slackers....DO NOT buy ROSES. Unless....Unless....she tells you they are her favorite. :) Most girls will never tell their man, but in general...they do not like (or hate) them. Nothing says unoriginal and lack of effort like roses.

I get my wife new flowers every 2 weeks from the grocery store; nothing special, just whatever bouquets they have for about $10. She has a vase in our living room where she displays them. Most of the time the flowers come with a packet of plant food, and if you keep them watered they will last a fortnight.

It thrills her and I get bonus points for a pretty cheap price.

I used to get my wife flowers all the time... but now it's down to every couple of months. Usually for the special occasions it will be roses but she likes to get carnations other than that. I do the same thing bgrad does... just pick up something at the grocery store.

wifey gets flowers about once a month, her favorite are the calla lilies, so she gets those every few months (i have a friend that has a sellers license, so they are A LOT cheaper). She loves it, the key factor is have them sent to where she works at least 2 time per year (on non-occasions) it makes the other broads jealous and that what woman want!

CB6.. I believe roses are still rated as the #1 flower of choice by gals... but if you want to put a special spin on them.. get the non-traditional colors... yellow, white, pink and especially the variations of orange...

I paid for two years of college as a delivery driver for a wholesale florist company...

Nice twist out this way... and especially Manhattan.. you can pick up a dozen long stemmed, huge headed roses for $10... all day long on various corners or shops...

Here's a lifelong tip... as soon as you hand your mate her flowers and she gets ready to put them in a vase.. look at the cut end.... if it does not look like a very fresh cut... take a scissors... cut off about an inch in a diagonal cut... otherwise the flower can't suck up water... repeat after a few days... and if you don't get a powder additive with the flowers, add an aspirin... flowers will last two to three times as long...

Dude, maybe you aren't aware, or this is a regional thing but Calla Lillies are funeral flowers.
But, if those are what she likes, don't let that stand in your way. Those are my fiancee's favorites, also. Something to do with Georgia O'Keefe and her paintings of Calla Lilies, I suspect.

If you want to blow her away, go for the Calla Lilies.
I think you may have meant meant "If you want her to blow you away, go for the Calla lilies."

I used to grab some flowers from the grocery store upon occassion, but now we get our flowers from Costco (excellent store!) We can get 2 dozen roses for $12.99 (they reduce it to 1 dozen for that price around Valentine's Day and the like.) We usually buy the white roses, since they seem to last the longest. So we normally get them every 2 weeks or so.

Another substitute for plant food, btw, is Sprite. Simply pour some into the water each time you trim the stems.

I don't know about the $135 but this makes me think it might not be regional.

Glorious Tribute Bouquet

"A classic urn holds a glorious bouquet of lovely white calla lilies, red tulips and carnations. Star of Bethlehem and red ginger add a slightly tropical touch. This design is suitable to send to the residence, funeral home or service."

Are you having some subconscious feelings here?

Every month? Every other month? WTF??? Stop spoiling them or the rest of us guys stand no chance.

As for my woman I go for twice a year and are always sent to her work as she loves making all of her fellow female co-workers jealous. I actually go for Pro-Flowers.com as I just love their selections and prices. While I do give roses they must be multi-colored and not all red. But my woman loves lillies so I go for different varieties depending on what is available.
