I'm going to have to start saying that around the house. About the only thing better than my wife thinking I'm calling her a bitch is using words that she wouldn't understand (before calling her a bitch).
I haven't read this whole thread. Honestly, getting my reports done so my boss isn't in my office wondering where they are is more important to me these past couple of days than what Bobby Bowden is doing with one of his players. I saw that Paterno said something that has pissed people off, so it's probably something I that I agree with.
I said it before: I don't agree with a coach suspending a player based on an accusation of a crime or a breaking-of-rules, of any sort. I'm not saying that the coach should dismiss the situation until there is a guilty/not-guilty verdict. Instead, the coach basically needs to be the judge and jury of his own team. If he hears a report that one of his players sexually assaulted a 19-year old woman, in my opinion, he needs to decide whether he believes the woman or the player. And if he can't decide right now (maybe both have believable stories), then DON'T decide right now. He should decide when he's had the chance to hear from police, investigators, etc.
(I know that Bowden suspended the player for breaking team rules. That's an easier crime to prove, and less messy, in the short run.)
Remember the Kansas State quarterback? I forget his name. He was accused of something similar. The coach didn't suspend him, and everyone I saw on ESPN (except our buddy, Trev Alberts) thought it was an outrage. If I remember correctly, the accusation turned out to be bogus. The coach would have suspended the quarterback because some woman was trying to make news. (If I'm not remembering correctly, forget I brought this case up.)
I guess it just bothers me when people assume that a person is guilty based on an accusation. Remember the lady who accused MoC, Gamble, and a couple of other Buckeye football players of cheating their way through some African-American class? Were we as fast to assume tOSU's guilt in that case?
