5-star 2026 ATH Derrek Cooper told me he'll be back at Ohio State for the Michigan game. He's at Chaminade-Madonna, the alma mater of Jeremiah Smith and is being primarily recruited by Carlos Locklyn. I think Ohio State will end up being a real player in his recruitment. He camped in Columbus this past June, fwiw.

Miami has been tagged as the front-runner for the 2026 five-star athlete from Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade Madonna and that could definitely be the case - especially if the Hurricanes keep playing so well - but Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Florida State and Penn State remain contenders. Cooper was in Columbus over the weekend and the Buckeyes’ dominance over Purdue definitely stood out. An early and quick commitment to Georgia didn’t work out but the Bulldogs definitely remain a legit contender here.

Ohio State standing out to Derrek Cooper

Speaking of standout running backs in the 2026 cycle, the Buckeyes find themselves in a good position with another one in addition to Hatton. Five-star running back Derrek Cooper, the former high school teammate of Jeremiah Smith, told On3 this week Ohio State, Georgia, Texas A&M, Miami, Auburn and Alabama are among the biggest schools standing out to him at the moment.

Cooper attended multiple Hurricanes games this season and took gameday visits to Ohio State, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Texas A&M as well.

Cooper is likely going to make a decision about his future, sometime after he takes his official visits in June.

“When I commit, it will be about how I will be used, how the relationships are between my family and the coaches are and the stability of the coaching staff,” Cooper told On3. “The fit into the scheme will be important to me too. I want the chance to get on the field and show my ability as quickly as I can.”

Four-star Florida running back Derrek Cooper expects to be at OSU on June 20 and will also take official visits to Auburn, Miami, Alabama, Georgia and Penn State. Cooper is Jeremiah Smith's former high school teammate and is considered the No. 31 prospect in his class. As a junior, Cooper ran for 905 yards on 124 carries while catching nine passes for 156 yards and a touchdown. He also played safety and recorded 46 tackles, four sacks, four pass breakups, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles last season.
