First offensive play of the NC game?

1st play

IMO, games where the offense comes out and establishes the short to intermediate passing game, with a productive run game, where the oline is getting some movement, have been the games where the offense really performed well all day. Big plays are always a plus because they get the team up but can sometimes expose you to emotional peaks, which are sometimes followed by lows. I think Tressel comes out and tries to establish a rythym for the offense. :osu2:

I agree completely. A mix of run and intermediate passes. I honestly think we can run the ball well against them.

Good point and agreed, rhythm for the O and Boeckman in particular will be key to a fast start.

The off tackle run to Beanie or a high percentage play action pass (beanie as the fake), are both solid but predictable plays from the good guys. Comments about going to the TE off the play action makes sense since this has been a weak area for LSU.

With that said, perhaps they go a new formation and a high percentage pass. Perhaps spread LSU out with 4 wides and throw a quick pass out of a 3 step drop. Maybe something quick to Small.

Maybe, but I feel like that would sort of be playing into LSU's hands. I would prefer a nice shot in the mouth with beanie, right up the middle, past dorsey.

Fake Field Goal

Does anyone remember Joe Montana II: Sportstalk Football?

"It's first down, and I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!! Gets the kick away! It's blocked. Turns on the speed. Pushed out of bounds, and that stops the clock."

Video game announcers have come a long way.

We got to establish the run first. last year I think we tried to get too cute and over thought the gameplan. We need to impose OHIO STATE football on them right from the get go. LSU's defense has been subject to quick hitting running plays all year. If you break the initial line of scrimmage, there is usually a lot of open space and the opportunity for a big play. First play, quick hitter to Beanie off tackle (right at Dorsey).

Agree that we have to establish the run. And of course TOO cutesy is not JT's style. However, as scUM showed yesterday, we need to keep these guys off balance too. Can't just run 3 yards and a cloud of dust at 'em all day. We have to throw a few crazy things at them so as not to be too predictable. Anyway, with that said...Beanie off tackle for 3 yards on the first play! (Funny, I started this thread and never offered my own prediction!)

GO BUCKS!

I'd prefer the first play to be a run/pass option that Boeckman can declare after seeing how the defense lines up.

I've always thought that you can't say whether you want to establish the run first or the pass first. Take what the defense gives you, and let Boeckman make the decisions based on what he sees.

Of course, the play changes will probably need to be based on hand signals because of the noise from the mostly LSU crowd in the Dome.
