Not to be the grammer nazi, Tibs isn't the first one I have seen do this. Why is it the Phillipines, but it is full of Fillipinos? I thought that the Phillipines would be full of PHillipinos???

But I guess they are just Filipinos.
My guess is that The country was... at one point so full of Imelda Marcos's shoes that they no longer had room for as many contractions and double letters... so they had to change some to just one letter to save space.
