Was talking to a friend who is a lifelong Big-XII guy, and mentioned to him before the game even started that win or lose, I love these early season power matchups. No matter how green your team is going in, you've got a gelled unit at the other end. To get both that an a lopsided (at least on the scoreboard) win, is just plain beautiful.
So more of those please. And we'll get them. Not so impressed with Washington next year, but USC and Miami coming down the pipe, good stuff.
Really though, I'd love to see Texas come back on the schedule. These two teams, as different as they are, couldn't have been more well balanced against one another both years. I've said that ("more games with these guys") about Texas Tech, and I might have even mumbled it about NCState, but those were mostly just friendly offerings because we made some good friends from within their fanbases. Here, that still holds true, but I genuinely believe that these two programs are more alike than not, at least in all the ways that make for a great contest and interaction/exchange between the fans.
What games... They come into the Shoe and upset us. We come into Texas and do it to them. Exact opposite of what any reasonable person would have predicted or expected, and both games (despite tonight's score) where both teams played gutsy effective games, and either team was perfectly capable of winning.
Texas shares our long history, are equal (arguably) in terms of overall success, we're both recent national champs. Our fans are of very similar depth of understanding and passion. We both recruit brilliantly -- is there a better team for an OOC rivalry for us? I'm not so sure. They beat us last year, and rode that momentum to the national championship. I certainly hope we can do the same.
So OSU, I know you're not reading, or if you are, it's your lawyers, in which case I want to welcome you to the very scarlet and very gray BUCKEYEplanet where we just love to talk about Ohio State sports, athletics, football, and whatever else we want -- woops, left field -- anyway, I know you're not reading, but more Texas Longhorns please. Thanks. Too good a two game series not to make a four, or a six, eight, whatever.
Horn fans, I doubt many of you will see this, but much respect, and I planned to say that whether we won, or suffered another loss. I want nothing more than to see you win out the rest of the way, and while I have no desire to face you again this season, I would like to see you where you belong, with an end of season ranking in the top 3.
Anyway BP, enjoy the high. :) This has been a good day, we win a game of epic proportions in a manner that makes a huge statement -- AND no pissant wanna-be hackers managed to damage the site through brainless exploits! Bonus.
Will really look forward to popping in and reading some of the post game comments tomorrow and over the next few days.
Some mod feel perfectly free to merge this with whatever meaningful post-game discussion thread emerges.
