Favorite Cincinnati chili?

Every Skyline in NE Ohio is gone.

I was going to respond to your post to call you an idiot and stuff because I know of 2 Skylines.


But then I scroll down a little:


NO! Lyndhurst is permanently closed, and Stow is also closed.

I understand that it isn't for everyone, but I love the gross stuff. But with a vegetarian wife and a picky eater for a daughter, it's tough to find a chance to go.

When I lived in Cincinnati many years ago, I lived in a little apartment off Reading Rd, not far from a place called Chili Time. Being Columbus born and bred, and from an Italian family, I was confused by the menu the first time I saw it. I had never heard of putting chili on spaghetti, and didn't care for the five-way (or anything that included the very mushy noodles they called spaghetti). I only ate chili and spaghetti one time - put me off for good.

I did like their little cheese coneys, though. They made a good cheap meal for the poor starving youngster that I was.

Hopefully Stow isn't gone for good. We are in the area sometimes and it was closer than Lyndhurst. When they closed the one on Ridge they were supposed to build a new one off of Tiedeman, but it never happened. Ridge was always pretty busy when we used to go there.

I've also done my own Cincy style. I'm somewhat malleable, but nobody will ever convince me that Cincy chili isn't amazing. Call me a southwest Ohio homer, but I seriously love it. There's a lot of places that you can debate, but give me that Skyline in a pinch every time if I still lived there.

Me too - and I'm far from a native Cincinnatian.
We did it for a kids birthday party and bounce house party and it was great.

Only thing I changed is we used hotdogs for the kids and then a variety of different brats/metts/big red smokies for the grown ups along with grilled onions instead of raw. Really good

Good man, no double bouncing though (unless you're rad that is). Can't overdo the cinnamon though, I lean towards a more spicy version and that's really the only part where I divert a bit.

I like it on pasta for sure, but on a dog/brat is where it's at for me. Grilled onions is a nice touch, I'll go with raw but grilled is more tasty. But kids won't appreciate all that, so good call lol.

Have you always felt that way on Skyline? I haven't had it in probably like 10 years other than ordering the canned chili on Amazon, so I don't know if it went downhill at all since I moved from Ohio. Could also depend on location (Chipotle is definitely that way for me, but different subject).

I never liked it. I gave it a couple of chances. When I was stationed at Scott AFB in Illinois, when I'd make drives back to Ohio to visit, I'd pass through the Dayton area and stopped at the restaurants a couple of times to eat. Wasn't good to me. Not a fan of the cinnamon-y flavor at all. And the amount of cheese they dumped on was insane. Listen, I LOVE cheese, but the amount of shredded cheese they dumped on the dishes made it soooooo dry on top of the bad flavor. This was in the 2002-2006 timeframe. I found the cans of it at Safeway in Colorado Springs around 2009-2010 and picked some up to give it another chance and make my own "Cincinnati Chili." Still hated it. Just not a fan.

Fair enough. If you gave it that many chances, then you just don't like it and i know plenty of people who don't. I do not like Goldstar for whatever reason. The first time I tried Skyline that I can remember was probably like 2004-ish in Dayton and loved it. I think the cinnamon flavor is what drives some people off, or the pasta.

One of my fellow Bengals fans where I live now brought me a care package Skyline themed since I hadn't been back in a bit. Joe Burrow cup with a can of Skyline and crackers, pretty awesome. Made it stove top with a proper amount of cheese (I understand your complaint there, sometimes they do put too much on), but added just a little bit of habanero hot sauce. Just the right mix for me so you didn't get too much cinnamon flavor if it's over the top. I've tampered with it a lot though, so I can't even list the variations I've implemented.

Crisis averted. Stow is back open.

I interned at Harris Corporation in Mason, Ohio once. I really liked Skyline Chili. Very interesting chili stop for what they do!
