Favorite Bar in Columbus

I always liked Mac's in the Short North. Nice place to just sit back, relax and talk with friends. Plus, it was the first place I discovered in Columbus that served Guinness at room temperature.

We used to hang out at Barley's (both the smokehouse and the ale house) quite a bit. I also liked the Rose and Thistle on Chambers (stumbling distance from Manfred's apartment). I saw Geiger in there a few times. I loved going to Byrne's when they had live Irish music on Saturdays.

Singing aye, yi, yi, yi
In China they do it for chili,
so sing me another verse that's worse than the other verse
and waltz me around on my Willy

Ah, the old North Berg on Fridays around three when we'd sit at tables and sing one dirty lymrick after another and drink 3.2 Black Label or Strohs and order pizza from the Venetian right next door..

My other favorite place was just up the street at Larry's where the juke box was always playing TBDBITL, Tchaikovski's Swan Lake, Ella Fitzgerald, Dave Brubeck and Scotch and Soda by the Kingston Trio.

In my later years it became Don's on Indianola, home of the greasy swiss cheese burger and one of the few places in town where you could get Michelob on tap.

Spice Bar & Grill for me

Nice place I know a bartender in there that's an Old friend of mine. But not exactly my favorite place. Every time I've been in there everyone acted like they were too good for the world.

Porter has a good take on a things.

Lately I've been hanging out at the bar across the street from my house which used to be the espressway on hilliard rome rd.(it's a dive but good friends and good times)

I remember some of the weird brews they offered at Barley's, but they were always top notch.

I miss that place badly! I love all their beers (minus the sissy pilsner), but my favorites are their Scottish Ale, Cherry Porter, and their Barley Wine. I don't think anything comes close to this place in Boston as far as microbrews go.

Mmmmmm.....

I cannot wait to go back over the holidays!
