Favorite Away Game Experience

I think this will just not be quite right for the football board. . .

Anyway, I've only been to two away games: Purdue and Northwestern.

Northwestern was hilarious. Firstly, the subway was filled with Ohio State fans heading out to the game. Beers were passed freely around the subway on its way from downtown Chicago to the stadium. The locals were SCARED.

Also, the stadium has all these signs around it like "participant in X bowl" or "very nearly had winning season." Almost never a sign for a win. Too funny.

Finally, it was FREEZING, maybe 2 years ago? We were all dressed for warmer weather. It was raining off and on too. Anyway, I had first row seats near the 50, and when the cheerleaders came out, all the Ohio State fans, who dominated the crowd, chanted "NERDS, NERDS, NERDS." Not particularly admirable, but pretty funny as the game was in hand (though Kafka was great). Then, when the sun finally came out, the Ohio State crowd chanted "SUN, SUN, SUN." For some reason I found that hilarious.

Oh, and at the Purdue game, some things look better on TV. Having a little train going by going "toot toot" was not intimidating. I did get free sausage from BB and Cinci though, that was good.

Best and worst experiences anyone?

Earle Bruce's final game at TSUN, which also happened to be my senior year at tOSU. After a disappointing 5-4-1 season, Bruce was fired the week of THE GAME. We already had tickets for a bus to AA so we went even though we weren't as enthused as we had hoped earlier in the year. The skunkbears were Big Ten champs and and the Bucks were double digit underdogs. It didn't matter. The good guys won 23-20 and Bruce was carried off the field by his players.

We were being somewhat celebratory, to say the least, as f-bombs and other items were thrown at us while we made our way back the bus. The trip back to C-bus and the all night party were unforgettable.

Fuck Michigan.

Worst expericence? Easy. My first - and last - trip to Crappy Valley in 2005 (or 06). It was the night the inbreds threw beer at our band after getting obliterated in a fucking pasture. Idiot fans, shitty campus, and rednecks as far as the eyes could see...we are, penn state.

Fuck PoSU, too.

Two falls ago - Getting absolutely cock-punched in Knoxville by Eric Berry and Lane Kifffen was very difficult to stomach. Drunk Volunteer fans taunted us all night long and made the muggy weather and my consistent hangover even more unbearable.

Beating Clemson's ass in 2003 was very memorable. The game was hotter than 10,000 suns, but it was the day I learned that Kirk Herbstreit couldn't accurately predict a football game if his life depended on it. On Game Day he concluded that Georgia had graduated too many players from the Sugar Bowl team to be competative, so Clemson would win by 10. FINAL SCORE: UGA 30 - CLEMSON 0

A very, very close second is the 2009 game against Georgia Tech. This was their ACC Championship team (before they were stripped of the title by the NCAA) and they ended up losing to Iowa in the Orange Bowl. Essentially, their best team in 20 years and Georgia went in, ran for 275+ yards and kicked their ass on Senior Night.
You're 2nd place forever you terrible [censored]s!

Anybody who was at that game witnessed them at their worst. I haven't been back since.....and I don't really plan on being back.

The only other away game I've been to is USC. That was fun

Other than bowl games, I've never been to an away game yet. Went to the '95 Citrus Bowl against Tennessee, where it rained all game long. And also the '06 and '07 Championship games. Let's just say I don't think I'll be going to another bowl game in a while.

Shitty Valley in 05'. My senior year of high school. A couple dear friends and my eldest cousin (OSU alumnus).

Literally the worst experience I've ever had at any sporting event - ever. Regardless of teams or location. Such a terrible idea, which sadly was... my own.

If we we're also listing professional - then Brownies vs Steelers. Apparently rednecks are abound in the "Great" State of PA.

Unless we count Toledo '09 in Cleveland, Champaign in 2002 is my first and only road trip to see the Bucks. Absolute blast for a freshman in Stradley Hall at the time.

UI/NW in Wrigley last year was a great experience for someone who didn't give a shit about the outcome. Unfortunately AT&T sucks so my battery ran out while refreshing the Iowa/OSU score...and Wrigley was slow as shit updating on the center field scoreboard.

I really enjoyed the game at unHappy Valley in 2007. Buckeyes were #1, they did their Whiteout thing, and the Buckeyes dominated on the field with a great game by Todd Boeckman.

Counting bowl games, the 2010 Rose Bowl win and the 2006 Fiesta Bowl win over NoD are highlights I'll never forget.

Just for tailgating, I had an excellent time at Washington and at USC - meeting a lot of BP folks out there that usually aren't able to go to very many Buckeye games.

At Purdue a few years ago, I was having a good time until some douchelozzle ate all of the sausage that cinci and I had.

My best all-around experience was at Texas. Free ticket, amazing Buckeye tailgate. Great game for the good guys. Good night out in Austin. Tons of nice people. I've been saying that to whomever wants to talk college towns since then. Truly a great time.

Greatest game experience was the National Championship game... my brother and I nearly missed our flight to AZ due to NYE festivities the night before our flight... but... yeah, made it, and it was clearly amazing.

The amazing thing is, Buckeye away games are usuallygreat considering how fans travel and almost always amazing for non B1G (is that how we do it now?) games and bowl games... so many Buckeyes... so I had a great time in LA for the SC game (great tailgating at the frats too) and at the Rose Bowl against oregon. Even NOLA was a great, great time up until the game.

I've still got a bid for one of those New Orleans alumni shirts if someone is selling an XL.

(should note that I haven't lived in columbus since 98, so getting to away games has often been just as easy if not easier than home games...)

Forgot about bowl games. The NC game against LSU was a fantastic time....ignoring the result and all.

Here's a question for those of you that have traveled to Arizona for many of the games that have been played here. How do you like the new stadium compared to Sun Devil stadium? I know it's really nice but it's way out in bumfuck nowhere, they've tried to build shit around it but it's still like a third world bazaar. Tempe is an ideal location for a football game. Yes, the stadium is old but being right next to the school is so convenient for entertaining oneself.
