I have a draft on the same day, so I'm all for moving it. Any week night or Sunday night is fine with me aside from the 4th

I usually do my drafts about a week before the season as well, in case some big name pitcher blows his arm out or something. Try to keep people from getting screwed before the season starts. I wouldn't worry too much about missing the draft as long as you adjust your prerankings. My friends and I have been doing autopick drafts for years because we can never get together on a time, the alogorithms that Yahoo uses are pretty smart and will fill in your team according to need. In fact, I had to sign up my wife for fantasy football a couple of years ago to fill out our league. She won it with a default rankings autopicked team. The only move all season was to drop the injured McCallister for Droughns. Pissed me off because I spent hours adjusting my rankings and doing reasearch and had my worst season ever that year. Go figure.
